Doesn't make sense.... Debauchery - Didn't the Romans accept Christianity as thier No. 1 religion and didn't Jesus previously pay them a visit..... You would think both those things would be enough to create a solid non-self serving on the staight and narrow even more stronger Rome....... hmmm weird.

Yes. America is too multicultural now to be influenced by the Bible. We're a country of freedom, so we shouldn't be making people follow a religion by law. Anybody that disagrees with me on that is either ignorant or sheltered.

No, it wasn't Christianity that did the Roman Empire in. It was overindulgence, and overextension in their empire making. They were fighting on too many fronts, and finally got to the point where they had to withdraw from some territories. The combination was just too much. There are parallels between us and the Romans, however... One is overspending- we can't keep it up much longer; we are already in debt til kingdom come over the Iraq war. We are overextended militaraly. We have a population that is largly indifferent to the political scene, and would rather watch"Survivor" that the President's speach or follow the news. Just like bread and circuses that the Emperors used to entertain the masses so they wouldn't notice how bad things were getting, we have cable and video games. So yeah, we could go the way of the Roman Empire, but not because of Christianity, although I have to say that the strong influence of fundamentalist Christians on our government today is disturbing, to say the least.

Isn't that where we are heading right now?

The Roman empire fell in part because it's military was spread far too thin. So is ours right now.

What's interesting to note is that we waged the cold war with Russia because they were spreading their Communist form of government though the world, and we didn't like it. Now, we're spreading our form of government, Democracy through the world, and believe we're doing it a favor. What makes it right for us when it was wrong for the Soviet Union?

The Roman Empire is gone. The United Kingdom has greatly diminished. The Soviet Union no longer exists as such. Who's left?

it is funny but the USA was founded on Christ and the principles of His teaching. just because schools would rather leave out the faith of our founding fathers, does not mean it is true. our founding fathers believed in Jesus and were not afraid to mention God as the purpose of forming this country. if they lived today they would be disgusted by the way that we have treated their vision of this country here is a great quote from John Adams.

. We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." --October 11, 1798

The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”
• “[July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”

considering how "small" and interconnected our world is today.

I would say it could fall faster and harder than the Roman Empire.

Lets just put it this way if America would declare tomorrow that anyone who is not a Christian has to convert or leave.

It will make the great depression look like a bad stock day.

Considering that over half of all billionaires in America are not Christian the stock market would collapse 1000%.

Pretty much. Actually we're already in decline, as it is with most empires which grow fat, arrogant and complacent. When the Christians take over (and make no mistake: They're not out to "save" anyone. It's all about POWER) there won't be much of a country left. We've already squandered whatever good will was left for us in the world (Thanks, W!), we produce nothing, and we waste nearly everything. I hope I won't live to see it; a Christian version of the Taliban will be an ugly sight indeed.

The Roman Empire fell because of debauchery.

It is not Christianity that we must fear. It is Protestantism linking arms with both Spiritualism and the Catholics, THIS is what we must fear! Because then they will be a force that can not be stopped, and we will all pay for it. I am a Christian, but I am not a Protestant, or a Catholic, nor am I a Spiritualist.

The USA is already running under a pseudo-theocracy under Dubya and his apocalyptic Christian Cronies. And look at the crap they have been up to for the last 4 years!!!!!

I suspect not. I believe the fundamentalist pendulum is swinging the other way now and things will get back to normal soon.
