Could I be depressed? I have thought that I might be for years but always ruled it out. I used to blame my husband for all of our fighting because of the way he acted, but a few months ago he went to the doctor and has been on anxiety medicine and he has been great. I still find myself feeling sorry for myself, getting upset for no reason, or saying (unintentional mean) things to people to try and make myself feel better (in turn I make myself feel worse). Some days I don't want to talk to anyone or do anything, sometimes I want to stay in bed all day, but I tell my husband that I stay in bed to relax. I find it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep and always wake up tired. I have gained weight over the last few years as well, sometimes I feel as if I binge when I eat. These feelings are not all the time but I would like to make changes to be happier. Could this be anything else? I feel embarrassed by this. Can someone have slight depression? Any advice would be helpful!

Mental illness is a tricky subject. I suggest making an appointment with your family doctor. Make a list of all your symptoms and any patterns you might see. S/he could prescribe counseling or medication to help you.

Yes, from your description, you seem to be a bit down. It's only natural to be blue once in a while, but if this has been an on going process for you then it's time to do something about it, before it gets worse. Perhaps you need new hobbies? A new purpose? How are you getting along with your hubby? Maybe you both should sit down and discuss what you are going through. Here are a few suggested ways to cope with your situation:
-Try to occupy your mind and concentrate on something that can lift your mood.
-Excercise. Don't stay in bed longer than you have too for the needed rest.
-Pay attention to the way you look. When you look good, it helps you to feel better.
-Avoid alcohol. It's a depressant.
-Eat healthy so you'll feel healthy.
I hope you feel better soon.

You describe many of the classic symptoms and signs of major clinical depression. Depending on your age, you should have your hormone levels checked, as well as a complete physical exam and blood work (for example thyroid hormone level) to look for some other cause. However, usually it is due to depression. Anti-anxiety drugs are addictive and I do not recommend them for your situation. Paxil has been shown to help with anxiety associated with depression. The best treatment is a combination of antidepressant and therapy. Some of the newer modalities work well and are faster than conventional talk therapy. Regular vigorous aerobic exercise has been shown in multiple studies to help with depression as well or better than medications. However, this may be a difficult way to begin since you need to be motivated for that, and motivation is often the first thing to suffer with depression. Nardil or Parnate are older meds but are very effective for long term chronic depression, called dysthymia. The risks of increased blood pressure from eating cheese or red wine while on these meds is greatly blown out of proportion, but you should still exercise caution.

You would seem to meet the criteria for Clinical
Depression, see a doctor, but be slow to accept drugs as the answer.
Your husband was clinically depressed for a time, having to cope with that level of depression may have made you feel superior. Now that your husband is behaving more normally, you are no longer "the sane one", I don't personally think you need medication, I think you need time and trust with what your "new" reality is.
Get more exercise, it seriously helps with depression and anxiety.
Don't sweat the small stuff individually, deal with the big stuff together.

yes you can have slight bit of depression especially if your stressed out at school work or even at home because i was really depressed wile i lived at home with my family not that they were bad people to be around or anything i just felt like i wasn't appreciated enough and that made me get depressed so while i was at my parents house i had to take depression medicine every day because if i didn't i would be in the refrigerator all day and not be hungry but would eat just because things will get better and you'll feel better soon most likely just try to eliminate or change the things that are stressing you out and soon you'll be fine you might want to go to the doctor to have him check you out just to make sure that you are healthy because if you have a chemical imbalance in your brain that could cause the depression *i changed the things that stressed me out and now i am not depressed and i can sleep better *

I'd say so. Laying in bed all day, isolating yourself, sleep disturbances, anxiety, weight gain, unexplained anger... Yep. Sounds like depression to me.
