The first person is correct bird are not mammals they do not produce milk for their young. Parakeets (budgies) do create a liquid which is called 'crop milk' which is feed for the first few days. My bird got mad for carrot, boiled egg and sprouts at this time of rearing. You can also add: corn, apple, pear, orange, any lettuce but iceburg and even some cooked pasta. Do not add any of the fruit seeds.

She needs more protein to sustain her young besides fresh fruits and veggies like cooked eggs. The new pelleted food is more nutritious than an all seed diet.Slowly decrease her seed diet to about 20% a day. Since she is a bird, she doesn't lactate like us mammals, but I think she must be feeding some chicks. Have a nice holiday.

Parakeets don't lactate (produce milk to feed their young). I would give her any fruits or veggies that she will eat, except for iceberg lettuce (it has little nutritional value).
