what could be fairer than producing 4 male witness if you are raped?aThousands of Islamist protesters demonstrated in southern Pakistan on Sunday against a new law that reduces the burden of proof on rape victims by allowing them to seek justice without the need for four male witnesses.
The Women Protection Bill, signed into law last month, was seen as a key test for President Pervez Musharraf's philosophy of "enlightened moderation" for his predominantly Muslim country.
The protest in the country's biggest city of Karachi came a day after Musharraf ruled out any changes to the law despite calls from the Islamists.
Some 10,000 supporters of the Islamist parties, most of them bearded, chanted slogans of "Down with Musharraf" and "Down with the Women Protection Law" at the rally and demanded the government scrap the law.
The law takes the crime of rape out of the sphere of the religious laws, known as the Hudood Ordinances, and puts it under the penal code.

Under the Hudood Ordinances, which were introduced by a military ruler in 1979, a rape victim had to produce four male witnesses to prove the crime, or face the possibility of prosecution for adultery.
"We reject this law because it is unIslamic and also against women rights," Fazal-ur-Rehman, a senior leader of the main Islamist alliance and opposition leader in the National Assembly, parliament's lower house, told the rally.
Rehman said the law is a conspiracy to make Pakistan a "free sex zone".

It is a fight between the liberals and the religious believers... and we will continue our protest against this unIslamic law," he said.
Controversy over the reform of Islamic laws has highlighted a long struggle between progressives and religious conservatives over the direction of Pakistani society.
Women's groups have called for the total repeal of the Islamic laws, which still ban sex outside marriage and stipulate that women adulterers can be stoned to death. But they have hailed the new law, saying it would help mitigate sufferings of thousands of women.

Because it is not true. Simple as that. When in Riyadh, I would give ten riyals (US$ 2.65) to the beggar ladies who sat outside the supermarket, because they literally had no way to support themselves in an Islamic society. In the US, any one of them could have found gainful employment. Of course, Muslim abuse of women does not stop there; there is the notorious case of the African woman who was raped, and who do you suppose the Islamic court ordered be stoned to death? The rapist, or the victim? You figure it out.

I'm kind of confused about what you're asking.
I am all for prosecuting rapists. I understand that in countries where premarital or extramarital sex is REALLY frowned upon, a woman caught with her pants down would be more likely to cry rape even if it wasn't, but I believe there's a lot to be said for holding men accountable.
"Western" culture is pretty screwed up, and way oversexualized, but I don't think it's right to go all the way to the other side as well.
The way I see it, if you're gonna stone the girl, stone the bastard too. It's usually the man's fault.

Because "secular western values" place a woman's life above her religion, not on the same level as it. How in the world is a woman who is raped going to procure four male witnesses? If there are only three male witnesses, does that mean that no rape occurred? If there are only women as witnesses, does that mean that the rapist can go free? Those are unjust circumstances, and it is enlightenment to show fair treatment to women by allowing them to seek justice against those who would deny them their right to a life of freedom.

Allah or Jesus?
By Rick Mathes
Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths who explained their belief systems. I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say.
The Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam complete with a video. After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers. When it was my turn I directed my question to the Imam and asked: Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that most Imams and clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad [Holy war] against the infidels of the world. And, that by killing an infidel, which is a command to all Muslims, they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's the case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"
There was no disagreement with my statements and without hesitation he replied, "Non-believers!"
I responded, So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers of Allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith so they can go to heaven. Is that correct? The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He sheepishly replied, Yes.
I then stated, Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Pat Robertson or Dr. Stanley ordering Protestants to do the same in order to go to heaven! The Imam was speechless.
I continued, I also have problem with being your friend when you and your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me. Let me ask you a question-would you rather have your Allah who tells you to kill me in order to go to heaven or my Jesus who tells me to love you because I am going to heaven and wants you to be with me? You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.
Chuck Colson once told me something that has sustained me these 20 years of prison ministry. He said to me, Rick, remember that the truth will prevail. And it will!
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

No, islam isn't nicely suited with western society. basically look at yahoo solutions for occasion! am i able to take heed to this song/positioned in this merchandise of clothing/devour this nutrition/talk with those human beings/ do this occupation/be my own guy or woman or is it frowned upon in islam? It restricts human beings too plenty who're attempting to stay in a western international. It needs to severely substitute or end attempting to combine with the west finished end. human beings could desire to be waiting to do as they need, positioned on what they need, marry who they need, without concern of offending human beings or the god of their mothers and fathers (permit's settle for it - not many muslims locate Allah on their own, they are brainwashed into it coz their mothers and fathers have faith). human beings being compelled to positioned on headscarves in case a guy gets lusty?! coach the adult men some restraint then! adult men at the instant are not gods. women at the instant are not inferior. modern, western custom grasps this so plenty greater effective than islam.

this is a joke, right?
requiring 4 male witnesses is basically saying legally "there is no such thing as rape"
many muslims say their religion does or doesn't preach certain things... but the fact that muslim-run countries don't give more outrage against things like palestinian attacks on israeli civillians, that one priest in australia was it? saying what he did about women...

So you mean that you need to be gang raped for any one to almost get convicted, no thanks, it is so much worse, cos usually it is one guy and they don't usually do it in public...
That is not justice at all... That definitely does not protect women. They would never press charges...
That is not protection...
