Wolfie's right - depends on the Whiskey.
Generally speaking, however, a Scotch at 78 years is much too old. Good whiskies tend to lose their character after about 18 years in barrel. There are a few exceptions but they are very rare.
I recently had a Macallan 21 year aged in "Fine Oak" that was absolutely stunning. The Johnnie Green I had after it tasted like shite in comparison!
Oh yeah, the cost of a 78 yr...at least $300.00 American.

You can find it for probably $200 (+)

However, it is not just the age but the maker that determines a good Uisgebagh (Whiskey).

One of the finest whisky's known is called Tullamore Dew.

It is an Irish Whiskey, which is still slow cured unlike many brands of Scotch. Scotch Whiskey has to be aged considerably to get the same result as a normal Irish Whiskey.

You should be able to find Tullamore Dew for about $20 in the ABC stores..... and I have had blind taste tests among some of my many friends against such brands as Johnny Walker Blue, and Chivas Royal Salute.

Tullamore Dew has held it own and often wins those taste tests.

Depends on the brand, and if its matured for 78 years or if it has been stored on a bottle during the time.
