Just because miracles don't happen doesn't mean everybody realizes it.
Some people are deluded.

There is indeed no such thing as a miracle, but that is not the reason. The reason is that the laws of nature are in force under all circumstances whatsoever, and apparent deviations (which might be called a miracle) simply represent laws that we don't understand as yet. You will note that as our knowledge of science has improved, the number of alleged miracles has declined markedly.
As for prayer, to what should one pray? There is no evidence for the existence of a god, let alone one that has any interest in human affairs. Hence, prayer is a waste of time. It can be shown that any theory of religion is completely useless, as no such theory can have any effect in the real world.

Praying does not necessarily mean you have to pray to one God in one religion. If you are into it, then praying to your God (raccoons) if you so choose to believe will give you a chance to focus on what you are praying for. When you are praying to whatever God, you actually concentrate on your own problem enough to relax, and possibly clear your mind to solve it yourself. Sometimes it is cleared up by your relaxed meditated and well rested self the next or following days. But either way, religion tries to claim their resolved prayers are miracles and that they are the chosen race and/or religion, thus trying to take over and control the world.
They don't realize that weather, parasites, bacteria, etc, etc, etc, will eventually choose their fate, and the fate or evolution of us humans and animals!

If People were in control then that wouldn't negate miracles as the two situations are not mutually exclusive, in my opinion. Praying is a personal option that allows for the exercising of communion with the One by any mortal that elects to participate, again my opinion as to why it is done.

How does
a) people are in control of the world
have anything to do with
b) there are no miracles?
God can intervene at the time and place of His choosing.
I'm embarrassed for you...really, I am.
EDIT: I walk funny...being called an idiot by an atheist is a badge of honor. Thank you for bestowing it on me.

First off...let me address humanities control of the world. God instituted human government so that anarchy would not reign. That does not mean humanity affects all aspects of this creation. Miracles can and do happen. God and intercede and does sometimes.
Second, why pray? Because God wants us to. He wants us to talk to him. He loves us and wants us to be dependant on Him.

Individuals are the ones creating miracles. You pray(ask) for insights to assist you in creating said miracles.

Control of physical body and control of soul are two seperate things. People can control the physical body but not the soul.

People are not in control of the world. If we were in control, nothing bad would happen to us, would it?
God is still in control and still hears and answers our prayers. It's just that his answers aren't always as we want because he knows what is best for us. He knows our future and is in control.

There is no such thing as a miracle and prayer has no purpose except to make people feel better.

Nope - there are still miracles. But its quite clear in the Bible who He will reveal miracles to, and who He will hide them from.
And prayer is not just for miracles.
