I was with my boyfriend and, well, we were makin out and stuff and all of a sudden he called me by his ex-girlfriends name. I didnt know how to react and so i just kind of looked at him and he tried to play it off as a joke. I was kind of mad, do i have a right to be? What does this mean??

I hate to say it but he's obviously still been thinking about her. Kick his butt and make him grovel at your feet. There should be no excuse and no joking. First time you can possibly let him off with a warning but if it happens again then kapow! show him the door...
Good luck sweets

Yes, you have the right to be mad, and hurt, but lets first examine why he could have said what he said. I think a few factors could have come into play: 1. Maybe your relationship is still kinda new. or 2. Maybe he still has feelings for his ex. of 3. Could he still be seeing his ex? 4. Does he have kids with the ex? Because if so, maybe his ex is bugging him because Christmas is coming up. I do thing that this is a warning sign, wake up call or what ever you call it, to take a step back and examine what this relationship means to you and what does it mean to him. Its certainly a wakeup call, but its up to you to find out what the wake up call is for. Good Luck

It can mean one of these things...
1.)He's still seeing her behind your back but this is the least likely scenario.
2.)The most likely scenario is he's still in love with her or has feelings and hasn't moved on. I feel for him i've been there. You have every right to be upset my dear but here's some advice..
He could be in denial about it which he needs to come clean to himself and you. He's not ready to move on with you so this leaves you with a choice.
Wait it out and be his reason to move on maybe his rebound girl or leave him alone for a bit until he makes the conscious decision to continue. I will often say an old girlfriend's name in my sleep because i'm remembering them in my dreams even years later. I don't have any feelings for them but the past is hard to eliminate from our residual minds. We all have our ghosts it's up to us how we deal with our own and others.
Only you can decide but remember until he can make a clean break with yesterday he cannot make a better tommorrow with you. Remembering the past is ok but it does no good to dwell there.

he sounded apologetic, so, what else can you do except to say someone else's name the next time you make out? when was she his ex? was it very recent? while he could be thinking of her, you have a plus point because he's with you. instead of being all angry, try and do more fun stuff with him. create unforgettable and memorable moments and i am sure he will be all yours soon! the ex would then be mere history. rise to the ocassion and don't let that name put you down! i say, go for it, girl!

You have the right to be upset, I know I would be.
But I really don't think you should dump him because he called you his ex's name. Who knows what was going through his mind. And everybody messes up every once in a while.

ah yea been there sucks ey? you say wtf man you thinking of her in your head and yep they are ..I can understand if it was a few weeks of you dating he is used to calling out his exs name. you failed to mention the time period of his ex and the now current..you can forget it otherwise if you keep bringing it up assuming no good and accusing him you will lose him. if it happens again well bad news.. im sure if he was in the heat of the moment his ego is all up and high and u say oh --- name he would not like it. I validate your concern but let him slide let it pass once.

It means he is still thinking of her and yes, you have every right to be mad. If he is with you, wants you... he should be saying your name and not have to think about it. I tried this once... place sticky notes all over the house with your name on them, he won't forget again.

aww don't be so mean folks. it's not all about the words it's about the actions too. he might still think about her, and miss her, but that ain't so bad. if he's doing it more, and seeming distant then talk to him at least.
the poor guy shouldn't be dumped for a little freudian slip of sorts.

Yes, you have a right to be mad. You have your own name, there's no need for him to call you by another!
