All right so for those of you who think that I am going to hell because I have four Tattoos, that indeed depict christian symbols thus making them christian in nature, you are ill informed. Let me inform you of why in Leviticus it was a law not to be tattooed or cut yourself.
In ancient pagan religions it was thought that tattoos could protect you from harmfull magic. Some tattoos also indicated which God or cult you belongd to (analogous to the fact that slaves were branded or tattooed) the earliest evidence of tattooing in the near east comes from Neo lithic fertility figurines discovered in Jordan. In middle kingdom Egypt tattoos associated with Hathor (fertility goddess) were discovered on a mummy prietstess. These figurines were referred to as brides of the dead linked to sexuality withe rebirth ensuring the rebirth of a God. It seems likely that these laws were directed at specific practices. That being said I will post some more with my other account on this because, no room

For one, "tattoo" is not in the original text, it is to cut or mark the body

For two, it specifies FOR THE DEAD

For three even if the body is the temple, God had decorations put on Solomons Temple also. Nothing wrong with decorating.

For four... The flesh doesnt inherit the Kingdom anyway, its dead. Do what you want with it.

I dont believe tattoos are sin unless they are sinful pictures or in sexual places.

...you mean you sin? GASP! God would never love a sinner..wait. He sent his son to save a world full of sinners. :) Honey, you are not a "bad christian" there is no such thing, just like there is no "good" christian either. I've been in a similar place and i think that comes with our age maybe?.. However, there is always a time to change. Nothing says you can't listen to music anymore besides traditional hymns. There are plenty of modern Christian Rock/Pop bands out there :) and guess what you can still listen to the music you have been- as long as it doesn't inspire or put a bad seed in you. (cursing, drugs, rebelling from the law and so on). Your cursing- does it show honor to the Lord? Do people see you and think man i want to be her! or man the God speaks through her? I was able to stop because of my school(i switched to a prep school so you have to change that otherwise your out) anyways i still curse. Just not as much. Basically, i learned to watch what i was listening to,who i was talking to, what i was saying and what i was reading/watching. That helped a LOT. Tattoo's are kinda a personal opinion thing. Some christian's say it's a sin because of the book of Leviticus. However, i disagree. Hardly, anyone follows the whole book of Leviticus ( i mean blue jeans, tshirts, fish, mentally disabled christian's and so are all "sins" according to that book) but that was BEFORE Jesus came and died for us. That was wrote when the Israelites where wondering the desert, they need strict rules and things that would set them apart from that time. It's a different time now. Slaves are considered inhumane, equality is promoted, offerings are no longer considered the only way to prove yourself to the lord and many more things. I suggest you read and study the book before you decided that the Lord says it's a sin or it isn't. When ever you feel something like this, it is probably the Lord convicting you using the Holy Spirit :)

If you consider yourself a Christian,

Significantly, the Mosaic Law forbade God’s people to tattoo themselves. Said Leviticus 19:28: “You must not make cuts in your flesh for a deceased soul, and you must not put tattoo marking upon yourselves. I am Jehovah.” Pagan worshipers, such as the Egyptians, tattooed the names or symbols of their deities on their breast or arms. By complying with Jehovah’s ban on tattoo markings, the Israelites would stand out as different from other nations.—Deuteronomy 14:1, 2.

The prohibition would also have impressed upon them a proper respect for the human body as God’s creation, to be used in honoring him.—Ps 100:3; 139:13-16; Ro 12:1.

While Christians today are not under the Law of Moses, the prohibition it laid on tattooing is sobering. (Ephesians 2:15; Colossians 2:14, 15) If you are a Christian, you would certainly not want to make markings on your body—even temporarily—that smack of paganism or false worship.—2 Corinthians 6:15-18.

I don't have a thing against you. A person will go to hell if they have unforgiven sin, not for a measly tattoo. So, I'm not sure who told you that.

I will say that I don't believe in marking up you're body. To me it's like spray painting graffiti on a work of art.

The following verse is talking about sexual immorality. I include it to remind fellow Christians that your body is not your own; it is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

C'mon... tattoos won't send you to hell but if your body is a temple of the Lord, and you fully understand that, why would you?
And what do non-christians think of your witness as a Christian?

You bought into a worldly fad and want it to be ok.
I told my son, a believing world missionary with tattoos the same thing. People in China that he witnessed to have asked him about it - and there is no good answer. Think about that.

Live into today - not the ancient world.

Also before you try and quote Corinthians on me, paul was talking about sexual immorality not putting marks on your skin. Also Revelations 14:2 says that the 144000 will have Jesus name and his fathers name written on thier foreheads. It also talks abotu christs name ebing inscribed on him in Revelations. An lastly there were probably a whole lot of Jews who were branded or tattooed because they wer enslaved for how many years?!? I mean people really get a clue. That all being said who has christian tattoos?

In Leviticus it states not to get tattoos for the dead and only for that reason. Personal enjoyment is not forbidden

Only slaves are to get tattoos or piercings. If you have tattoos you are not going to heaven. Why do you think the freaking Nazis tattood the Jews and nobody else.

If you're a Christian, we live under the grace of Jesus as found in the New Testament. Tattoos don't bother me unless they are offensive and I don't consider them sinful.

i guess it depends on what culture you come from. if you are Hawaiian or from Samoa being tattooed is apart of the culture.in fact in Samoa its very disrespectful if you don't get tattooed at a certain age. you could be disowned by your whole community.i think that if someone is on fire for God and they want to have YAHWEH emblazoned on their chest or ABBA GIRL so be it. as for those parents who have their children's names on them that's OK too. it depends on the tattoo that you have and the history behind it.
