It seems there is God's Way, and a way that seems right to humans.
No single verse that would answer all YOUR questions.
However, it seems throughout the Old Testament that God sent His prophets and His Word ... telling humans how they should live FOR THEIR OWN GOOD.
Humans continually let God know they wanted TO DO IT their own way.
So, God sent His Own Son; humans took Him and killed Him.
It seems God has decided to say "o.k., let the humans show just how they will bring about an utopia on earth." THAT is why the world is in such a mess. Seems God is going to wait until humans will be on the point of totally destroying His Earth; then He will intervene; then he will call them to give account.
In the meantime He raised Jesus from the Dead and those who trust Jesus as Saviour are allowed into Heaven to wait to the "end time".

This world is in such a mess because people in this world do not follow what God has commanded for us to do.
God will always be in control since he is the creator of all.

Long story, but I'm guessing you don't want to read the whole Old Testament to find out, so here is the short answer.
The world has mostly turned away fromHim.
If you don't believe me - why does the rich Western society have a mostly Christian heritage, and the 3rd world countries have a mostly Muslim/Hindu/etc heritage? Just a coincidence huh?
You'll see Western society fall into a bigger and bigger mess too as it continues to turn away from Him.

The world is in the mess it is in because WE made it that way with our disobedience. He made it perfect and we messed it up.
If you go and by a new perfect car and then drive it out of the parking lot and wreck it, Whose fault is it? The manufacturer or the driver?
God is the manufacturer. We are the drivers. We have no right to complain to him about our mess!

Because everyone has the ability to make their own choices and create their own destiny. Not everyone in the world has been brought up like you. They have different belief systems and cultures. Maybe it's your outlook on life that makes the world look like a mess.

Because even though He has the power to affect all change, He only changes that which is asked for by us.
The main reason that the world is in the condition that it's in, is that He also gave us the freedom of choice. And we have chosen over time to destroy everything we get our hands on.

Because we refuse to follow His rules. It's very simple. The only way He can truly express His love for us is to allow us free will. Free will to do as we please even if it goes against His rules or commands. Even if it causes hurt or pain to our fellow man. Those areas in our lives that we allow Him to be in control of will work fine if we allow His will to be done. But if you notice the things in this world that we consider "sin" usually center around another familiar word called "self" Why do people kill one another? Self gain, self control, self survival. Why do we rob one another? Because, you have something that "I" want. Remove "self" from the top of your priority list and you will notice a huge change in our world.

This is one question on which religious and unbelievers could agree: people screwed it up. And if it is ever to be fixed, people will have to do the unscrewing. Even the bible says that God helps those who help themselves.

God is patient. He is not willing that any should perish. He wants all to come to the knowledge of him. He knows when the last one will believe. He is in power, he's just holding back for the sake of those who will see the truth.

Free will. God gave it to humans and they are the ones who messed it up, not God.
