The best place to get moonshine is Eastern Kentucky. There are many different flavors from straight to strawberry and the like. The unflavored should taste like water with a lil burn if done right, the bad taste people talk about comes from impurities and being made wrong. The flavored kind taste just like what it is. Strawberry, peach, raspberry, just about any fruit. It is about 190-195 proof. But if it is pure, you should not have any hangover from drinking it either. The hangover comes from the toxins in impure shine. You just have to watch it, because people have died from bad shine, especially if someone made it in an old radiator and it still had antifreeze in it. But if you get the right stuff, there is nothing better than an ice cold mason jar of strawberry moonshine!!!

Yes I have had moonshine. I had it in a small suburb of Atlanta, GA. Your only shot at finding any good moonshine is by the long slow process of going through the good old boy network. Find someone who knows someone who knows some one who knows someone.......... and so on then set up some kind of multi level trade. It is a complicated process that borders on being an epic quest, but if you can get some that has been made really well then it is worth it. It tastes like a combination of whiskey and vodka. Smooth at first followed by a crazy burn. Good luck.

As I understand it, the law frowns on production of home made spirits, but if I was to do so I would use lots and lots of granulated sugar with maybe a couple of oranges or a jar of malt extract thrown in and when it was fermented out to the strength of beer I would distil it maybe taking about a third off. If I added a few drops of water to the first trickle out of the pipe I would probably assume that if it turned milky like Pernod does, then I was getting a bunch of fusel oils and things coming off, and making the mixture milky by going into emulsion. There shouldn't be very much at all of these 'foreshots' to discard, and when it stops going milky it might be the point at which some people might then start collecting it if that is what they were interested in doing. Supposing that such a person took off a third of the original 'wash', and then distilled that again in the same way, and once more kept a third, - and supposing they did it a third time, They would be left with about one twenty-seventh of the original voiume in liquid, which might burn with a tall conical blue flame if a drop or two was placed on a surface and lit. I expect it might indeed be about 150 degrees gay-lussac in strength.

Ha Ha Ha. The hills of NC and TN are full of it! They call it that good ole Mountain Dew! Nascar was born from the mountains of North Carolina when moonshine runners had to outrun the law to get the goods delivered. Jimmy Johnson was imprisoned for running moonshine!

Moonshine is an acquired taste, better appreciated by hard liquor drinkers,

Try East Tn, & Ky Foothills but know that the production and sale is illegal under federal law. The Consumption how ever is not. Legal Loophole or coincidence you decide?

Hope this Helps
