Now if its CERE is turning purple, that's normal.
The cere is the "nose" part above the beak.
If the actual BEAK is turning purple, you need to get to your vet.
If you don't have one, you can find one at
http://aav.org/vet-lookup
Do you have pics?

Sorry.....Your girl is a boy...........The sex of a parakeet really cannot be distinguished UNTIL it is old enough for the beak to turn color. Dark blue or purple is a BOY. Some birds have to be checked by DNA to tell what sex they are.
So....................Whoever told you the sex didn't know what they were talking about. A good thing is, why would you care? Besides even in a parakeet, the male will almost always TALK. The female doesn't, unlike the females in the human species.
We had several male parakeets growing up and EVERY one of them talked. They need a lot of attention to do so, but they will talk as good as a Cockateil if you spend the time with them.

if it was a teenager, it is most likely the beak will change colors, but blue or purple beaks mean its a boy, and brown or pinkish beaks means its a girl

I hope you are talking about the area right above the beak-which is called the cere-and it changes color in male birds only. If it is the beak itself it would be bruised and not good.
