In my previous questions, I have talked about the evidence a christian might have for believing in God. This will address the concept that unbelievers(atheists, evolutionists, agnostics, and other "logic"based folks) need faith as well. And that it is not simply an excuse to throw away our brains.
I have heard it being said more than once that "faith is a crutch" and that "believing we did not evolve from other animals is like denying the existence of gravity." But here is the question. What causes gravity? You might say gravitrons, but do you really know? Or are you taking it on faith until someone finds out? Here's another one. Where did life come from? Space or primordial earth? If it is more than faith, you should know for a fact right? All I have heard is heresay both ways. In fact it is a hotly contested question between evolutionists. What caused the Big Bang to go boom when the vacuum of space did not even exist? Don't really know that stuff? That's ok. Take it on faith.

Laptop Jesus, thank you for your response. You are right, I do not need faith to believe that the road won't turn to swiss cheese. I think though, that you mischaracterize my argument. There are answers you don't have to very basic concepts of your beliefs. Is space moving away in all directions from one point? Yes. Does that mean you have any evidence whatsoever that God was not involved causing that expansion and that nothing all of a sudden became something by itself? Has science ever shown that to be likely or plausible? Has something ever come from nothing? No. So I can say that it is more science's responsibilty to come up with a better explanation, before it is anyone's responsibility to prove them wrong.

Jose, very well spoken. I think someday we may know what causes gravity since that is a natural phenomenon. I also believe in species adaption as long it seems plausible genetically speaking. I am not ignorant to the fact that science continues to make discoveries everyday in explaining processes of our natural world. But I am also very sensitive to the difference between scientific speculation and well tested theories. Like I said, science has never given any indication that the spontaneous origination of anything, life, space, time, matter ,energy would ever be possible. It would be a precident setting event ignoring all laws of physics and chemistry.eg. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed. And I agree with you. We are constantly deepening our understanding of the universe, however I doubt your assumption that it will prove that God is myth. In fact the more complex, yet intricate we find the universe to be, the more we shall find His fingerprints.

Things that can be observed now do not require faith, while there are some scientific concepts that do. You are right, the big bang is just one of the theorys for how the universe formed, it is a lower scientific concept, although one that most scientists agree with. It indeed does take some faith to believe in this concept.

There are concepts however, such as evolution, that the Earth is billions of years old, and has evolved through many periods from single celled organisms, that are theories that are backed by evidence that is observable in many different ways. It does not take much faith to see that these are true, and thus any major organized religion present today is false.

EDIT: Whoever mentioned fossils, please research evolution. The guiding for is not a straight line process, rapid sucession happens on a whole as genetic drift happens as a guiding force. Plus, fossils only form under specific conditions. It is amazing we find any animal transitional fossils at all.

My dear friend, you're confused. One thing is to have plausible theories about the origin of known natural phenomenon, to investigate, to make test and eventually prove them right, and some thing else is to have faith in fantasies and superstitions that you can not even make good arguments about it. The fact we don't know all there is to know about life and the universe is not a reason to blindly accept yours religious fallacies, and most important, is not a reason to believe that we'll never know. Today we know a lot we didn't know 100 years ago. I don't think it is possible for you to predict what we'll be able to know or not to know in another 100 or 200 years from now. In case that you've not notice, man is a creature imbued in a perpetual natural growth process, I don't think any body is prepared to say how high he we'll grow. Only religious fanatics insist in been stocked in the pass. Your idea of God, religion and faith must change and grow as every thing else around you. Your time in running out, your faith as it is today has no place in a more illuminated society.

All of the answers to your questions you are asking are in the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam BY Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. We have to have faith based on fact. These facts are in these books. Also Darwin's theory has been proved wrong by the scientists Read Forbidden Archeology and The Hidden History of the Human Race by Michael A Cremo. They have heaps of archaeological findings that man was more intelligent in every way millions of years ago and they didn't look like apes. This also goes along with the Vedic teachings. Gravity is God (details are explained in Srimad bhagavatam as God in the form as Anantashesha. go to krishnaculture. for complete details.

You're confusing "blind faith" with "reasonable expectation."

Do you KNOW the road won't turn to swiss cheese under your tires as you drive to work tomorrow morning? No. But do you take it on FAITH, or is it a reasonable expectation based upon experience and the knowledge you currently have about reality.

Ditto: the big bang. Science, UNLIKE RELIGION, doesn't say "we know this is how it happened and we shall be unmoved by facts." Science says "We THINK this is how it likely happened. Now you are challenged to prove us wrong." And unlike religion, when science is proven wrong, it changes!

We're born into a sphere of light. At first it is small and the darkness that surrounds it is infinite. Yet we feel safe within that sphere of light since we find nurture there by parents and other people. As we grow in knowledge our sphere of light grows too. We begin to consider ourselves wise, but true wisdom comes when our infinite mind realizes that our known sphere of light (knowledge) is nothing compared to the infinite unknown of the darkness. Stepping into the unknown always takes a measure of faith, which has never been empirically measureable.

I like your thinking. And yes, I think it takes a lot of faith to believe in evolution. There are so many holes in it. Too numerous to tell them all. One is out of all the millions of documented fossils, where are the in-between species, you know, the ones going from one species to another. Oh sure, they can show you pics of species that vary in traits among themselves, but they are actually the same species. There is no evidence for evolution. Everything produces it's own kind. Period.

Faith in God is an excessively robust factor. When I wanted God probably the most whilst occasions for me had been fairly unhealthy God replied my prayers. When My household used to be combating and abusing me God obtained me out of that trouble and into a miles bigger position. I am now married and I continuously desired a bit lady. I prayed and I used to be despatched a lovely little lady. God is strong, should you name and pray for Jesus and your wanting support, he listens to each prayer.
