My brother who is 16 used to have these night tremors when he was younger and would wake up screaming/ looking very upset. He hasn't had one in a while.. Well.. he was feeling ill the other day (seemed to have a cold) and slept almost all day. ALL he had during day was a gatoerade and did NOT eat.. he woke up saying he was 'going to die' and very violently ran into a wall. He then went into a room screaming at the top of his lungs.. He grabbed onto my mother saying how sorry he was. We called an ambulance asap. they checked him and they did not seem too concerned... a friend said he might have diabetes because his blood sugar may have been very low.. or maybe due to him being sick. I hope there are no serious problems..It was VERY fightening..He snapped out of it after a little while and when the paramedics were taking his blood pressure.. It was not drugs and he didn't even remember the episode he had..can someone please let me know if they have any idea what it may be? thank you much

It sounds like your brother has night terrors (very vivid nightmares; kin to sleepwalking) and they are very common and normal, especially when a person is sick. A friend of mine spent the night a few weeks ago and in the middle of the night, I lept out of bed, screaming, "who are you??!!" It was a night terror and shook me up pretty badly, but I was safe, and all was well.

Perhaps it would help him to talk to a clergy member, a trusted teacher or a psychologist about night terrors. There might be a medical problem, so a trip to the doctor to check everything out would be a good idea too.

What happened to your brother is common.

It could have been a nightmare stemming from something he has witnessed in the past without realizing it,or there is a remote possibility that he has seen something on tv as a small child. There are a lot of old soldiers, and I for one ocassionally have flashbacks of some combat experiences we have faced several years ago that we have actually forgotten about. What you have described about your brother could be very serious and affect him for many years, if it continues he needs professional help that most of us could never help him with. God bless you and your family. Have a wonderful and safe holiday that is coming up soon.

this is rather common. It sounds as though your brother is suffering from night terrors, however, I would advise you to have him checked out by a sleep doctor, as there MAY be an underlying issue. Has anyone discussed the dream he was having that night with him? If not, that may be helpful in finding the source of this relapse. good luck

He used to have what is called night terrors....very common in childhood, kids usually outgrow them around nine. It is possible that he was sleep walking, with a nightmare which is basically a night terror in an adult. I would consult a sleep center, a place where they study ones sleeping patterns and observe them over a few nights. He may be lacking a hormone that paralyzes our bodies during REM sleep.
