i used to take my son to all kinds of playgroups - 2 years ago and we didn't serve the adults food. Most everyone brought snacks of their own for the children and occasionally the host mom would have something small for the children and of course the moms could have a cracker too if they wanted.

don't worry about it - they should have ate breakfast and will leave before lunch!

Have a fun time! SD

While your playgroup is a first to you, what goes on at the other houses? Do they put out food for the moms? Surely chips or something must be around the house. If not, just greet them and ignore the problem--don't even bring it up. You cannot help your current ability or inability to serve food.If it bothers them, then don't invite them back

You are hosting a playgroup for children, not the parents. Let them bring there own food if they are hungery and plan to stay. Unless when you sent invitations or made the phone calls you said you would provide snacks for children and adults. Otherwise dont worry about it, as long as the kids have fun.

If it is understood in advance that food should be provided by each mother, or make it into a playdate/potluck. I've gone to playdates and hosted playdates in which each parent brought their own snacks for the little ones. This isn't a tea, it's a playdate.

Note here, the little ones where 12 - 18 months.

It depends on what time. If it's 12 - 2 p.m., moms will be hungry (even though a lot of moms carry snacks in their diaper bags, I think). I'm having one tomorrow night and advised that there would be chips and soda for the adults, and that I was going to assume the children will have already eaten.

You don't need to serve lunch or dinner, but a few appetizers and healthy drinks would be appropriate. Without them it does seem a bit rude. It is only appropriate to provide something to eat for the people you invite to your home. If you don't have a car, have food delivered - like pizza.

At 10 a.m., no one's going to expect lunch. Some kind of snack for the kids is nice. Coffee, tea or soda for the grownups.

Yes, rude. Make sure everyone including the moms get food.

It depends on the time of the playgroup but usually there is at least a small snack and beverage.
