I use a hair straightener every week day (rarely on the weekends). My split ends became pretty severe and I neglected to get the much-needed trim for a month. I got a trim one Friday (didn't straighten my hair that day) and had an inch taken off. I didn't straighten my hair that weekend, but on Monday afternoon, after straightening my hair that morning, I noticed that my split ends were back! I expected a few, but it looked as though I was still neglecting to get a trim. I've been using a Garnier shampoo to strengthen my hair, but it hasn't seemed to have any effect on my ends. My hair type is fine, but my hair gets very wavy and bushy while I sleep or when do not straighten it. I always let my hair air dry, so the only harm caused by heat is from my straightener.

What can I do to fix my split ends? Are there any at home remedies?

There is no way to "cure" a split end besides cutting it above the split. But some splits are higher than others so I would suggest getting your hair layered and ironing way less often. That's what I had to do... :o( If you do still plan on ironing your hair that often, I would check with a stylist to see what kind of shampoo they suggest, plus I would use a heat resistence spray before ironing, and then a smoothing oil like John Frieda afterwards. You may want to regularly use a hot oil treatment as well. The only way that your hair can be completely healthy and split end free again is to shave your head and start over basically... LoL Which sucks! As someone who irons their hair also, I know how badly it sucks!

***Someone suggested using Pantene ProV... PLEASE do not use this shampoo! I learned in modeling school (you can ask any hair stylist too) that Pantene doesn't actually make your hair healthy... it makes it "healthy-looking" because it is coating your hair with a wax that makes it appear to be soft and shiny, eventually it wont work anymore and it is really drying the crap out of your hair. Stay away from Pantene! You should never use a shampoo that has the same ingredients as floor cleaner!

You should be using a protective spray that you put on before straightening, don't use drug store shampoos or conditioners they are very bad for your hair. Go to a professional salon and ask the stylists there for advice to find you a proper shampoo. There are tons of christmas deals now. Also when you're brushing your hair after you shower you should be using a wide tooth comb and not a brush as this stretches the hair and breaks it off. Get your Hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Is your flat iron professional? This makes a big difference,

to help with the wavy/bushy look after you look: sleep with your hair in a braid (or two depending on length). the braid keeps it all in one place so you aren't rubbing it into your pillow every night.

some one mentioned before that there isn't a cure for split ends...they are correct. since you use a straightener so many times a week, i would suggest using shampoo & conditioner made for heat (thermasilk is the only one i can think of off the top of my head) and a spritz of heat protection spray to help. Also, you may use a intensive/deep conditioner once a week to help with the breakage & dryness (your hair is probably dry so it's braking), I suggest Pantene ProV. If you are willing to pay a lil more i would get all your hair products at a salon.

Get a trim like once a month. Get product that is used while straightening the hair. The product should say that it will protect the hair from themal use. (See link below to view product I use) Use conditioner on the ends of your hair. And I think Pantene ProV helps with split ends too.

Use a heat protectant before using the flat iron.
You dont need to iron your hair every day, it will stay straight for more than one day. Try to wait 2-3 days before washing it again, still shower just use a shower cap. Keep getting those trims every 6-8 weeks. Try using sunsilk, the pink bottle for hydrating, that treats split ends

it is good that you get a trim, but I think the big problem is the products your using. You need some good salon products-go to your local BIG salon and ask what they recommend for your hair. (they can see it, I can't) but what your seeing the few days after your trim may not be split ends but just frizz from lack of product. You need to be using a good smoothing serum or something on your hair between blowdrying and flat ironing. this will protect your hair from the flat iron

Just trim your hair everyone 1 to 2 months, drink lots of water and use a heavy conditioner... If you're washing your hair the next day, that night put in a heavy conditioner and leave it in all night, that helps alot.

You need to back off on straightening so much, or make sure your iron is not overheating. Try using some conditioning protection for your hair to protect it from the heat. Thermasilk comes to mind for a readily available products otherwise try a beauty supply for more options.

The only fix to split ends is to cut them. You can't repair hair that is so severely damaged. Keep your ends healthy by making sure they are always moisturized and don't use the hair straightener so often - heat is brutual to hair.
