Yes and no. I'm sure it would help, but most psychologists I've had experience with are more interested in the money than you. Venting to someone you trust would be better.

Sorry to hear that you have a secret you have had to keep for as long as 3 years! You should never have kept it to yourself for that length of time without telling someone! Obviously I dont know what your secret is, and I am not going to pry. But do you really think you need to see a shrink about it? Have you not got a friend that you can trust? Definately go to your doctor if it is getting to you that much! He will decide whether you need to see a shrink. You may just be given an appointment with a counsellor, however, there is a long waiting list. Unless your doctor can get you an urgent appointment; I dont know how they work. Either way, you can trust your doctor, a counsellor or a shrink, anything you say is in the strictest confidence. When they have completed their training, they have to swear what is called a hippocratic oath, which means that they can never ever tell another soul what their patients divulge to them. They WILL help you, and will totally understand. There isnt much that they havent heard before.
They say that a problem shared is a problem halved, so do go see your doc and get this secret off of your chest. Then you can begin to start sorting it out.
I wish you all the best, and do come back on here and let us know how you got on and how you are doing ok?
GOOD LUCK!!!

Personally, if I had the power, I would gather all the shrinks together and leave them to wander in the desert. However, a lot of people are helped in huge ways by going to therapy. Since there isn't exactly a long term commitment, it is definately worth going to 2 or 3 sessions to try and see if it's for you, if not then you really didn't lose all that much.

secrets can eat you up!! it depends how bad your secret is? usually the best person to tell and im not really religious! is a church in confession he cant see you you cant see him and nothing more is said this will get the burden of your chest as they are not allowed to say anything to anyone!! shrinks can be intimidating and tend to write notes on what you say or you can tell some one privately that you dont know or write your story to a magazine dont give any information on yourself if its something really really bad and you have hurt someone and you cant live with it do what your heart tells you good luck xx

No they are not the best person. In my opinion no matter what religion you are you could go into acatholic confessional with a priest. That is definitely private and they are obliged not to tell anyone. You will make yourself sick if you go on the way you are

yes psychs have a clause stating that they cannot divuldge information that is said behind closed doors unless they believe without a doubt that you could harm yourself or others. other than that it is a good thing to vent to a professional. I have been through therapy and it served me well. if this seceret is driving you crazy seek help A.S.A.P.

Your can either pay to see a psych doctor and have him help you with your problem or you can talk to your clergyman. If all you want to do is vent I would consider someone like your clergy unless you need help with how to deal with this secret. If you need help with dealing with this secret then by all means ask for a referal to a psych doctor.

Noway, a shrink is not the answer.
Talk to God in prayer. Stop dwellin on the secret, dwell on positive things and the future or hobbies u enjoy.
The devil is making u mad in the head---tell the devil to back off by the blood of Jesus and u will be ok.....
Enjoy life, we all have secrets, we are human afterall.

*Sigh* Unless you just happen to be religeous please don't listen to all this god talk. A psychologist would be a wonderful idea. Talking about things is how they get worked through and holding it in and having it consume your life is just adding pointless stress to an already stressful world. Talk to a therapist.
