2D animation?

I am an aspiring animator, but all I have is EASYTOON! arent there any other programs? arent there any FREE programs to create good quality animations? Flash is out of the question, its MANY MANY times out of my budget..... please help?

There's not a lot of options between animated GIF and flash. What about an old version of Flash from ebay? By the way, macromedia/Adobe has a GREAT student discount program.

I know Flash and ToonBoom is the only good Animation software with lots of good features. But they all are expensive software.
