I am a young magician who would like to know why are laymen so amazed after seeing a magic trick done by a magician. Please feel free to talk about your feelings, your thoughts and opinions on the art and performances of magic.

It's only amazing when you really can't tell how they did it. I live in Vegas, so I've met some stage magicians and seen many of their shows. It's strange, but simple tricks with coins or cards amaze me more than 'big' tricks because my brain doesn't reel against not having an explanation for a simple trick the way it does for a big trick. My jaw dropped when Lance Burton 'disappeared' from stage and reappeared up on the balcony... but then logic kicked in: it's a trick, it HAS to be a double... if he could REALLY teleport, he wouldn't be doing it on stage at the Monte Carlo charging 80 bucks a head! And so logic ruins the fun. Personally I prefer comic magicians to the more serious variety, and for the same reason... the jokes help me enjoy the illusion instead of concentrating on 'figuring it out'. It's the art of illusion .... all us "laymen" don't want to be thinking too hard about how a magic trick works ... if we want to know we'll become magicians ourselves .... it helps us escape from the everyday mundane things we know about into a bit of a fantasy place where the evils of the regular world can't penetrate ... let us enjoy our escapisim ... become a good magician but don't tell us how things are done :)

It is great because you can try to figure out how it is done. That is half the fun. Of course I am a total klutz and can totally respect how difficult the slide of hand stuff is. The thing I most admire is the imagination that goes into coming up with a trick that no one has ever done before. Besides girls love cute magicians!!!

Because, A magician does something that defys laws. Laws of physics, common sense, etc.
He does something impossible, something that should not have happened.
Everyone knows magic is fake (for the most part). For me, I enjoy magic because it amazes me, even though I know it's an illusion. But, part of the mystery and awe of magic is wondering how the illusion was created.
You should see the movie the prestige.

People are amazed by magic because it isn't something that a person can just stand up and do. It takes practice, therefore making it a talent. They like watching it because they know it is some illusion or there is a trick behind that is making it all happen and they want to figure out what it is.

Its the mystery. The fact that we can let our minds go and let ourselves be tricked so easily without being hurt or made to look a fool. Magic is wonderful. Good Career. Bringing smiles to peoples faces and seeing the look of wonder on their faces as they are tricked over and over.

If ever you practiced "slight of hand" or other feats of "magic" you wouldn't ask! You first had to be in awe and amazed by the sense of supernatural spells at work, [at least to the eye of the beholder!] So of course you were enthralled to learn this art!

Well, us laymen are amazed by magic because we wonder how any adult in their right mind can waste time and money thinking that they are cool by doing supposed slight of hand tricks like pulling a rabbit out of your butthole. Trust me, unless you are a 4 yr old at a birthday party, your not cool. And quit calling us people that have real jobs laymen.

I think it is becuase there seems to be no logical explanation to us "laymen" when it comes to magic- its like when someone claims to see a ghost and there are no logical explanations to it. Its all so intriguing.
