i do not have diabetes, but i often wondered if women with diabetes can have babies...or women with MS.

Yes - women with diabetes can have children. There was a time when it wasn't recommended, but with advances in blood sugar testing, practically everybody with diabetes can control their sugar levels far better than even 20 years ago. I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who watch "Steel Magnolias" and think that it's accurate in terms of what happens to a diabetic woman who becomes pregnant (Julia Roberts' chartacters' diabetes was VERY poorly researched, and the part was originally written for a play in 1987). Sorry for the aside, but the movie's portrayal of diabetic women pisses me off big time.

I've known women with diabetes who have had children. They need to be careful and have their blood sugar levels tested regularly. I've also known women who have developed diabetes during pregnancy. It's called gestational diabetes.

That would have to depend on the woman how severe her diabetes are. She could carry a child to term sometimes without any complications. The child also may/may not contract diabetes or whatever from the mother,not including HIV or etc.

YES ... my cousin has diabetes and just had her first child a very healthy boy... you just have to watch your diet and meds carefully keep in touch with your doc.... there is a higher risk of miscarriage

Yes they are. with Diabetes they have to monitor the sugars more closely!

My fiances mom did- I only know she had to go from controlling it with diet to being insulin dependant throughout gestation. After birth though she was off of the insulin.

I've known women to have gestational diabetes, and I have seen women being pregnant with diabetes. It's not right to do it, but yes they can.
