I'm sure a lot of nonsense gets investigated by the police. Are they obligated to inform the accused so that he or she can sue his/her accuser(s)? Can that information later be mis-used against the wronged party, that he or she was investigated?

So people can willy-nilly just go about accusing anyone of anything and just get away with it! Can you imagine how much that has got to be being used by idiots to settle scores!

If you know a police report was filed that has something about you in it, you can get a copy from the police even if they decide not to file charges against you. That said, I'm sure there are lawyers anywhere who may be interested in seeing of slander or libel is indicated in the report and let you know if you may have a viable case for a lawsuit.

While conducting an investigation, the Police DO NOT need to disclose any findings to anyone except those who are CONDUCTING the investigation.

All facts and evidence relating to a particular case MUST be disclosed to the Attorney for the Defense PRIOR to the commencement of the trial, or as soon as is reasonably practical after the facts have been "discovered".

No, they do not have to tell you anything.

As for the lawsuit, it is unlikely that you would prevail.

Can it be used against you? No. Will it be on your record? Probably.
