Around 2. If they are potty trained at night before that age I would do it then so they don't have the danger of climbing out of the crib to use the potty. I'd say by 3 at the latest.

Like the others said, as far as getting out of the crib, it's generally when they start climbing out. In my experience that's been closer to 18 months, but all kids are different.
I don't really care for toddler beds. What I think works best (and again, everyone is different) is to get a twin bed, only don't put it on a frame, rest it on the floor. You can put it on a frame later.
The only time I think a toddler bed is really a good idea is if there are space considerations in the bedroom (it's small).

They usually say when they climb out of the crib by themselves. But my kids were in toddler beds at the age of one years old so it is when you want to put them in them. Once you put them in the beds they can get up all the time.

My oldest daughter hated her toddler bed. She never slept in it. We finally got her a twin bed which she loved from day one.
With my second daughter we took off one side of her crib when she started climbing out and she slept in it until she was ready for a twin bed.

About 2, or whenever they're climbing over the rails of a crib.
Don't go right to a twin bed unless it has very low legs so is near to the floor. The child may well fall out of bed fairly often at first.

I put all my kids in one when they started crawling out of the crib at night. One night, I heard and thump, and she had fallen out while trying to climb out so that next day I bought one. They were all around 2 I think.

toddler bed = waste of money.. i'd go directly to a twin. otherwise you'll have to "transition" them again into another bed in a year anyway.. and to answer your question, keep them in the crib as long as they will safely stay there.. dont be in a hurry to put them in a toddler bed, b/c then they can GET OUT, whenver they feel like it and may resist naps.

15 months is when they say to do it. My son did that, but each child developes diffently. My son looks like a 3 yr old at age 2, so he was ready. If your child is at normal height and weight, than I would wait til he or she is two.
