Well I'd say "Choose your mate wisely"
But obviously THAT ship... has sailed.

there is a facebook page & website called single mom incarcerated dad. Check it out & begin to search online for support groups & community organizations. Even with a job, which several people seem to assume this woman does not have (judgement- interesting), she will need physical & emotional support. This is possible & very challenging. There are supportive people/ groups & organizations out there. It takes some work to find, but it can work out. I know this woman is already most likely struggling with low self esteem & depression & doesn't need to hear the obvious, or to be treated like an ill behaved child. Rutgers University also has an online resource library of organizations for families coping with incarceration. Not an uncommon situation, as the US has the highest incarceration rates in the world. There's also sesamestreet.org/ incarceration for children & caregivers. Lots of love to you & hang in there! You can do it, mama!

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Child Only Grant may be available (check with a social worker). Medicaid for the child (based on the child's income) at least--perhaps for both your friend and her child. She could also check with the local Ministerial Alliance--often church groups help single mothers.

help your own fund....tell your friend she needs to stay in school ....then prepare a career..take city test or good job test....and struggle on your own ...at the end she won't need anything and it's just like having a fatherless child which now adays does not mean anything just work and make your own money...at the end you kid will thank you for it ..and he will never miss the father...good luck i have been there done that and so does thousands of single women...

I don't think so....it sounds like she's in for a bad time.
Let her check with her local Legal Aid Society.
