I mean, you expect the odd customer to be crap with people, but the person serving at the counter should be required to have social skills.

Sure is a surprise when your server is crass---but I just never go back to that place. Nothing anyone but a boss can say that will change a person. However a new employee might be stressed and will get easier to deal with if everyone will just give them a chance. Remember that you have a job and think about how you are to your customers---are you guilty of being rude or crass? It works both ways.I found that being extra nice can sometimes help a person having a lousy day---JUST BE NICE and finish your meal.

yes, indeed

I called for tech support the other night for my phone and the guy was so stoned he was not even sensible

and he just was completely awkward, I can't imagine that being straight (meaning not stoned!) would've helped him any!

I work in customer service and it does indeed boggle the mind!

Poor grammar in people serving the public irks me as well

One girl said to me "we ain't got no..." at the hairdresser one time referring to coffee, I mean, it's hardly rocket science but at least hire people with a grasp of the language they were born speaking...if English is not their first language, I can forgive that...people who just use poor grammar just tick me off!

Un-freaking-believable!

Yeah, the other day I went somewhere where the clerk (a young guy) actually said out loud: "And then I say, 'Please sign here.'" Like he was trying to remember each step, but it was really weird that he said it out loud.
