Buy him a regular dads gift. Let him move on already. He may not say it but alot of people dont really like talking about those kins of things or being reminded. Spend Christmas happily so he can get a good nights sleep. Its hard to be able to go back and if he doesnt want to go dont pressure him or try to surprise him with a plane ticket. If he does not mind it and learned to put it all behind and is very proud of what he did then a plaque would be nice. Go to a Base nearby if possible and have a plaque made for him most likely at the Main PX. A flag and all his medals and ribbons. include dates and units. Rifle and pistol badges. There really not that expensive either. Just make sure you get a hold of his service record book and put all the right stuff. My cousin made one for his dad once and when I saw it there was alot of mistakes. wrong medals and stuff. So accuracy is important. Marines pay attention to detail.

If he doesn't already have one, I suggest a framed Marine Corps sword.

The Marines carry two swords.

One for officers, the Mameluke sword. This was presented to Marine Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon by the Mameluke warriors of North Africa in 1825. It is the oldest weapon in the United States military arsenal. It symbolizes the Marine Corps history at the shores of Tripoli

The other is for the enlisted Marine NCOs, the Calvary sword. It represents leadership in combat. It is the oldest weapon in the U.S. services still in continued use. Since 1858.

The Mameluke sword was replaced with the Calvary sword at one point. The Corps officers reverted back to the original Mamaluke after a time.
