My friend who I am really into has this quote in his profile what does it mean?

-------------------------------------

On ne voit bien qu'avec le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux

"It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important" (not what above means)
from The Little Prince

I did free translations and this is what the french means:
One does not see although with the heart, the essential one is invisible for the eyes

what does that quote mean in your opinion?

Your translation is a little off. A better (but not word-for-word translation is: You cannot truly see with your eyes; that which is essential is visible only with the heart. A more literal translation is: You can only see well with your heart; that which is essential is not visible with the eyes.

Basically, this deals with the duality of what you see (and therefore know) versus what you feel. Antoine De Saint Exupery (the author) is talking about "feeling" in the truest sense of the word. When you love, you feel it with your heart. Love (and the other "essentials" of life) cannot be seen, but must instead be felt. There is also the sense that your eyes can deceive you, but your heart will always lead you down the right path.

If you haven't read The Little Prince, it's absolutely worth it - it's a short read, but is achingly beautiful.

1. The Bruce Lee quote is about seeming to conform as a defense and a offense. A way of confounding you opponent. 2. A way of seeing not with the eyes but the heart. They're different, one having to do with conflict and the other with seeing the world. Yet they seem to deal reality the same way by being different.

This famous line, uttered by the fox to the Prince, is the essence of "The Little Prince".

A better translation of the quote is this:

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."

to me, it means to 'look' with your heart, not your eyes, to find what is important in life.
