if you have reduced the amount of fecal matter you normally loose each day then that is one sign that may indicate your constipated. if you find that the fecal matter is small hard and some what like rabbit droppings then you are most likely constipated.
if you simply do not go for a few days and your eating then you are constipated.
cramps for both men and women are common as well the tummy seems to be bigger often it may appear huge. you may pass more gas when you have not gone for a time.
the smell may be much more unpleasant if you are constipated
the bowels that is the part of the body that store the poo is in the front at about the belly button. you can press on that area and see if it feels hard or bouncy on one side . often one side is more stuck then the other . cramps would be felt in this area.
stool softeners are available with out a visit to the doctor,
other drugs such as ex-lax are also available but they are some what hard on the body . the pharmacy will have many products that may help you and the people who work behind the counter have most certainly dealt with this kind of problem many times before so don't be embarrassed to seek there advice. i suggest you do talk with them first as there are some other problems that can seem similar to constipation that are much more serious and taking a laxative would be very inadvisable if that was the case

Each person does have a different bowel pattern, and if you've missed at least one bowel movement (if you only go every couple of days) or two to three if you go daily, or if your poop when you do have a bowel movement is hard and painful to push out, then you are probably constipated. There are a lot of ways to deal with constipation - start by increasing your water intake, drinking a glass of prune juice, and increasing your fiber intake daily. Regular exercise works, too. If that doesn't work, then you can add some milk of magnesia (follow the directions) or some psyllium fiber to your regimen. Just remember to stop with the artificial stuff once the problem has cleared up, and continue with the daily changes. If constipation recurs, you should talk to your doctor about using an over the counter stool softener or laxative to keep up a routine. Just remember, it's not necessary to have a bowel movement every day, but every couple of days is important if you want to avoid digital disimpaction (look it up if you want to know....).

People have differing bowel patterns. Some people go every day like clockwork, other's go every other day, some go 2 - 3 times per day. You may be constipated if you haven't had a bowel movement (pooped) according to your regular schedule and you feel like you have to go but can't. If this is the case, you should try an over the counter laxative and use it according to the package instructions. Good luck with this as constipation can be a very painful condition.

Everyone has a different pattern. If you are having frequent abdominal discomfort especially after eating and feel like you have to go but can't, or have very hard stools, this is a possiblity. Most people have one at least every few days but if you are having fewer than 3 a week this is likely. It is mostly a clinical diagnosis. One can also check an x ray to see if you are full of stool.

Well, you turn green and grow purple dots. After a while of constipation, you'll notice little aliens dancing on your doorstep, and they'll sing to you, in the key of "F". I really hope you aren't, it's a bad, sad thing, especially enduring the tone deaf aliens on your porch!

P.S. Get yourself some prune juice, a stool softener, or as a last resort, a laxative--you can get it over the counter at any pharmacy. Good luck, lol. :)

If you have to go an can't go. Or you have not gone in a while. You might also have some cramping and your stool might be hard. You could also be feeling sick in your tummy. You might want to talk to your doctor about it and have him give you something for it. Or you can buy something for it at your local drug store.

If you eat and eat and eat, and none of it has gone to waste, then you're constipated.
