I'm going to get my hair dyed pretty soon, about two or three weeks from now, and right now my hair is jet black, and it's my pride and joy, it's very thick and silky, but I'm getting it dyed a few shades lighter to a dark/medium brown. Do you have any tips on keeping my hair in tip top condition before and after the coloring? I'm so confused, do I wash my hair right before, three days before or not at all? Do I wash my hair three days after, or a week after? Do I deep condition before, or after, or both? Do I buy special shampoo, and wash only every two days? Help!!

I like to keep my hair tip top and I also dye it about every three months! Take your normal shower early in the day and wash your hair as usual, give your hair time to dry before the initial coloring. If you're doing it yourself, then the dye should come with it's own special after-color conditioner. If you're having it done profesionally, the hair dresser should use their own special conditioner afterwards. Try not to wash your hair the day afterwards, to give it time to set! After that, it'll be fine to use your' normal shampoo and conditioner! If you're really worried about it, Pantene pro-v makes a special shampoo & conditioner for all colors of hair!

Are you going to a professional? They will probably strip your hair totally, because it is so dark. DONT wash you hair right before you go. Do it the night before. Hair dye soaks into hair when its dirty better than when its clean (I know it sounds gross.) As for keeping it that color, get a special shampoo and condition for Brunettes, they have one for dyed hair. The first time you wash it, (the next day) you will see color in the tub, don't worry that is just the excess dye your hair didn't soak up, your not loosing color! When I dye my hair I like to change my hair style a little, its fun! Good luck!

If youre doing it alone.. then youre supposed to put the coloring in dry, unwashed hair (atleast thats what my product required). It will tell you everything you need to know in the instructions packet -- if there are no instructions, dont buy it. There is usually a test you have to do before you color your hair one or two days before.. you just add a tiny bit of the chemical to your elbow or somewhere else to make sure you arent allergic to them. Right after you rinse your hair from the chemicals, you add the conditioner that comes with it. I colored my hair last night doing this and its really nice right now. Hope it works out.
