Let's be realistic, the only difference is that they are with their parents. I think they are less likely to do beer stands, shotguns and funnels and most importantly...drive drunk. That's my opinion and I want best answer!

If they're that age, who cares? So long as the parents are supervising, there's nothing wrong with it. Even kids in the their late teens could probably have a glass of wine now and then so long as their folks give the thumbs up. America is one of few countries that are anal-retentive about this sort of thing-- most Western European countries mark the drinking age at 16+. Or, my personal favorite: "When you're old enough to see over the bar, you're old enough to drink."
Seriously, though. If you have adult children and you want to share a drink with them, go right ahead. You're not the only one in America who's done it, and you'll hardly be the last.

My parents let us drink when we were 18. It was never really made into an "issue" we knew the consequenses of over indulgence- most of us suffered them- but when we were with friends some of them got totally wasted because it was like they had never seen the stuff before and would never see it again. I think it helped me with defiance- I never really felt like I had to defy my parents because they knew. None of us turned into raging alcoholics or addicts of any kind so I say sure- as long as there is good communication within the family- why not?!

I had my first drink with my dad when I was 18 out of high school. he said it was better to learn how many I could have in a controlled enviorment than to be out with my buddies drinking beer by the packs. And in the law book for ohio it dont matter how old the person is as long as their are in a household that is controlled they can have an ocassinal drink. like for birthdays or something. personally I think achohol taste like vomit in a bottle

when i was younger alot of my friends parents prefered we drink in their home rather then go out some where else and then drive home drunk....
my kids are still young so i dont really know how i would handle it with my own... at 18 i was out on my own and lived a few states away from my parents... so yeah i drank..... at 18 i dont think its a HUGE deal as long as they are being safe and not driving around town drunk

I think they are probably better off experimenting at home than off where they are bound for a binge that could be very dangerous. At least parents can 'teach' them a little about tolerance points, effects, alcohol poisoning, and keep them safe.
And if the 'child' happens to be home on leave from the military-buy them a six pack!

well the lagal age limit here to drink is 18, so its fine with me, but i know a lot of kids around here start drinking around 16 and i think thats wronge, it doesnt set good example's when some parenst even buy it for them..i dont agree at all.

In canada 19 is legal to drink alcohol.

In my state, the parents could be arrested. Furnishing alcohol to a minor is cause for court action.
Why would anyone take a chance on something like that?

As I understand it, that is legal even at a restaurant. After reading some of these answers, I am beginning to question my knowledge in these matters.
Well, who knows? Law wasn't meant to be simple.
