I had a tire come apart in the mountains in Tennessee on a Sunday. Thankfully one of the towns had a Wal-Mart (I was able to drive some.)

Driving across West Virginia (the ENTIRE state) at night - scary because it's so dark and mountainous, and I'm not into the height-thing.

Which leads me to the craziest road I've ever been on - The Apache Trail in Arizona. Parts of it are gravel, and even one lane - through the mountains (again!); there are crosses at some points and what looks like thin aluminum along some edges - no way could it serve as a guard rail. I met a Coke truck around one of those curves. My knuckles were white after and I bought a sticker that I'm proud to own about surviving the ride. They advise (found this out after) that you travel the trail the reverse way so you aren't on the outside of those curves driving it the first time around.

Once I was on a road-trip from Atlanta to Chicago. There were 3 cars traveling together. About 1 hour outside of Chicago the riders in my vehicle notice one of the cars missing, but didn't think much about it because we were so close to home. About 20 min later, we received a phone call stating the passengers from the missing vehicle were being rushed from the Hospital. The driver fell asleep at the wheel and the car rolled into a ditch and landed upside down. They were there for about an hour before they were discovered by the State Trooper.
