Perhaps in the time between "at first" and "later" they've gotten to know you a bit...enough to know if they are interested or not...remember, for chicks it's typically not just about a cute face and nice body...

girls wants to know you better at first and some are just shy,,,,,,,,but later on.....they are all on you because time somehow breaks the ice....they got to know you better.

Well girls need to get comfortable with you first, they need to feel that you're "safe".
After that they feel ok opening up themselves to you and want to have that feeling always.
