I have a 1993 ford taurus with a 3.8L v6 engine. And the problem im having is that when you start the car sometimes it takes the start 3 to 5 seconds for starter to start cranking when holding the key in the start position. I have had the battery replaced since the old one was bad. But its not doing it as much. it has a used starter on it since the orignal one went out 9 months ago.

The Starter motor does not even turn just a click like the solenoid is enaging the gear to the flywheel but no starter motor noise.

sounds like the throw-out on the starter is not kicking out to the flywheel. do you get a whinning noise? ELectrical like the starter is spinning but the throwout (bendix spring) has not engaded?

That mey be the problem(starter) it may have worn brushes or could be a loose cable. Also if the battery doesn't have enough cranking amps that could do it too. Is your battery cables clean and free of corrosion? That's another souce of the problem that easily corrected.

sounds like the starter relay is acting up or there is battery acid contamination in the battery cables, causing resistance

time for a remanufactured starter don't forget to clean all terminals including body grounds and starter feed [b+] cable

you may have another bad starter on there!
or the starter solenoid may be on the way out!
