I was working my stomach recently and a heavier set man next to me kept farting during his exercise. I have witnessed this numerous times; heavier set people flatulating during ab workouts. Why does this happen?

If you really believe that lean people don't, or have never noticed them, it means your observation powers are highly limited - and are restricted only to those who are fat !

Fat people often have problems with digestion, though it can be an effect and not merely a cause of the weight. Then when they do exercise that flexes the muscles of the stomach and abdomen, any accumulated gas is pushed out. Since the sound of flatulence is exaggerated by the soft flesh of the heavy buttocks, they can't do "sneaky ones" like you skinny guys can.

Lol it isn't just fat people, but it seems everyone only pays attention when it happens to them. I'll admit I've been next to fat people who have farted at the gym (and, as a fat person, I'll say I accidentally ripped one while coming up on the final sit up) but skinny people do it as well.

Why do skinny people obsess about fat people? What YOU DON'T FART? Yeah, OK. Maybe fat people LIKE to fart more because they see jerks like you staring at them!?
Maybe they want you to GO AWAY, so they're trying to stink you out!
Get over yourself and either get fat yourself, so you can figure out all of the wonders of what fat people do, or get a hobby!

Well, silly, why does anyone fart? They have gas in their intestines.....people who are heavier, usually means they eat more and hence, have more gas....when they sit-up, it puts pressure on their abdomen and forces the gas out.....voila ..... fart!
