Nope. Its a lot like the idea that God wants someone to worship Him these days.

It makes God sound pretty insecure.

Makes you wonder what God has to be insecure about don't it?

Love and blessings Don

Throughout history animals have been sacrificed in the honor of a deity or deities. To answer your question, yes that is what "God" really wanted according the the religion the ancient civilizations believed in at the time. If you follow a different religion, or live in a different society you will probably disagree on animal sacrifice.. If you are a follower of the biblical God, I think the answers given above are adequate.

Contrary to popular belief the Ancient Egyptians thought animal sacrifice as a taboo .

There was actually a message to God's people revolving around animal sacrafice. It was commanded in order that they actually knew that animals were not gods and were not to be worshipped, as they had observed in Egypt during their captivity, and some had even embraced.

Even during the Exodus to freedom from Egyptian slavery there was the incident where Aaron made the "Golden Calf" while Moses was gone. Everyone was going to worship and pray to it when they got worried.

In the year 70 A.D. when Jerusalem was destroyed by the Roman Army, and the Temple burned along with it, animal sacrafice on the Jewish Temple altar ceased. It has never been practiced again since. So you see, God also ended the practice.

well first off, god doesn't "want". GOD is not a person or soul. God is everything in life. God is what's going on. God is a spirit. A spirit & soul are different things. This is what ticks me off. Everyone thinks god is like a man in the clouds or space or something. well guess what. HE'S NOT. It was just what happened in life, when they burned dead animals to God in ancient times. But they just thought he was a person in the clouds, but that goes so to speak about them believing that bees came from rotten meat. I don't know, people are weird...

No "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me?Saith the Lord. I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts: and I delight no in the blood of bull or cows or lambs or goat. When ye spread forth your hands , I will hide Mine eyes from you: when ye make many prayers, I will not hear, for your hands are full of blood." Isaiah 1:11,15
He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man.." Isaiah 66:3
Also King Constantine took everything out of the Bible to do with Vegetarianism and Reincarnation, because he was an avid meat eater and wanted to control the citizens. Read Gospel of The Nazirenes Edited and Restored with Historical Documentation by Alan Wauters and Rick Van Wyhe. This is the original Bible that Jesus taught before evil Constantine misconstrued the Bible. If one is a sincere seeker of truth they should read this.

God commanded animal sacrifice for two reasons.

First, sin was brought into the world through Adam and Eve's first sin in the Garden, and we learn that the penalty of sin is death. Therefore, the life of an animal was sacrificed as a "payment" for the sins of the people.

Second, this type of sacrifice foreshadowed the final perfect sacrifice made when Jesus offered himself up on the cross as a final payment for our sins (everyone's sins...past, present and future).

They didn't burn dead animals. They burned live ones and then ate them afterwards.
Possibly it was what the god wanted. Most gods started out as "war gods". When their people were successful in battle and wiped out the rivals, they became "the god".

yes all Gods believe in sacrifice, however a Pagan God would have wanted the remains to return to the system to become compost or food for another lifeform, and so complete the cycle of life ,death ,life.

Only an Invader god could blaspheme and waste the recourses of death to burning.
This God also sacrificed his own son ,a practice usually reserved for Satanist .

Aleistar Crowley a renowned infamous Satanist sacrificed both his sons
the sacrifice of animals and humans prevails to this day.

Yup, he really liked his BBQ back then. But those who burnt animals as an offering really got no good out of it. Ya see, the Lord liked his BBQ real tomato-y, but since people in the Old World didn't have tomatos they didn't have exactly what God wanted. Things are different now, plenty of tomato sauce for those yummy BBQ fixinings. Trouble is, people like the smell so much, they eat it up in no time. Temptation, temptation!

For those who believe the Bible is the word of God Himself, you can find His words in Leviticus along with the exact method of sacrifice. The priests were the only ones allowed to offer the sacrifices and they were from the Tribe of Levites who were given no land. Instead of land, God put them in charge of the Temple and of all offerings. How do you think they were able to support themselves without land to till?

The offerings of grains, oils, incense, little critters, etc. were meant to feed the priests and their families. The only part of the sacrifice meant for God was the aroma.

The Temple was destroyed in the year 70 and sacrifices could no longer be made -- they were replaced by prayer.

You would think that those who truly believe the Bible to be the word of God would learn to read it in it's original language so they would understand sacrifices and exactly who were bound by its 613 laws.
