I have sleep apnea, and I never thought about doing anything about it. Didn't want surgery, or anything. It was just snoring, right?

I did a sleep study and found out that I was breathing about 15 seconds of every minute I was sleeping, and waking up about every 45 seconds. The docs then told me all kinds of ramifications, like high blood pressure, dangers of being exhausted, etc. But it was the sleep study report with the numbers that made me get help.

I would suggest you make a deal with him: just ask him to do the sleep study. It's one night in the hospital, so at least you'll get a night's quiet sleep too :). When he gets the results, then he'll make a decision literally how much he wants to live.

Incidentally, the worse the apnea is, the LESS chance surgery can be done to correct it. So if he's concerned about the surgery, he may be eligible. Instead there's something called a CPAP, which has been amazing for everyone I know who has used one.

My hubby also has sleep apnoea. as its usual for all, he also didn't think it was serious enough to seek medical help. He travelled a lot for work. It so happened that when he would be with me, his snoring won't let me sleep and when he used to be away, i won't get sleep because house is awfully quiet. Well..... after a while it so happened my system became soundproof. Nothing would wake me up.
Lack of sleep took a toll on his health. he started being very irritable and experienced mood swings. He started to sleep anywhere anytime, at times even during office meetings.
This made him seek medical help. He went for sleep study and have started using sleep machine since. Now he gets full night's sleep. There is no snoring. His behaviour has become better as he is not sleep deprived any longer.
Hope my experience will help you to convince your hubby to get sleep study done. Its simple and there is no discomfort what so ever. All the best to both of you,

Keep in mind you can only help those who want the help, My husband did the same thing and once the sleep study was finally done, we found out he has severe sleep apnea. I convinced him by telling him about the added stress it puts on the heart causing early heart attacks, high blood pressure and stokes, he was only 48 at the time but I know people who have died at the age of 20 because of this disorder. Most large build men are affected with this disorder. Tell him you love him and want to keep him around for a while longer, or make him feel more at ease by offering to go with him and have one too so he won't feel so alone, this works usually.

I tried for 10 years to get mine to seek treatment. We didn't sleep in the same room or even on the same floor for all that time. Finally a stranger told him he had sleep apnea, he got a breathing machine, and overnight, no more snoring. But...it had ruined our marriage and after hanging on for 32 years, I finally walked away because he ignored what I had to say.
I still sleep alone but at least it is a peaceful sleep.

He could very well have sleep apnea. His falling asleep at the drop of a hat could be a symptom. People with sleep apnea never reach the REM stage because the apnea keeps waking them up. So, these people are exhausted from lack of restorative sleep. If you suspect this, you need to have him see his doctor. The doctor will probably order a sleep study. Good luck.

Tell him to start working out and eating an apple everyday. Apple skin has super antioxidants that counterblock the habit of consuming a high fat diet or a diet high in saturated fat. If the sleep apnea doesnt let you sleep at night, then tell him to sleep on either his left or right side which will help him with the flow of air while he is sleeping. Make sure he eats those apples or drink apple juice. Whole red apples are better.

If he has that attitude,he most likely won't be compliant with tretment even if he is diagnosed and has CPAP prescribed. You can try sleeping in a separate room and/or earplugs. Maybe you have already, but make sure he's aware that this could threaten the marriage. This is a frustrating disorder and I wish you luck.

Well their are not much u can do! he does need treatment, so if ur can hear him in the kitchen with both doors closed then sleeping in another room will not help at all. Ive been there, Ear plug didn't even help! but the 3 nights treatment did! as of today I'm one happy wife again. try taping him and let him hear himself!!! GOOD LUCK TOO U ur going to need it!

Sleep Apnea can potentially (but rarely) be a serious problem, you need to get him to somehow seek treatment.
