A "maid" inplies a basically live-in, or at least all day servant who may clean (or not) wait on you with coffee and tea, cook (or not), answer doors and telephones.
Houseboy is the term used here in Asia, or Houseman after about age 30. That implies all types of work, including cleaning, gardening, driving, running errands, etc. Some friends are also using the term house manager, if the worker does translations, helps to handle business, etc. House boy is respectful here, even though some groups in the USA don't like boy being used for an adult, that is political correctness run amok in the US.

probably the housekeeper...i guess maybe the butler?

i don't know....we did have a guy that used to be part of the cleaning service that came every other week...he definitely wouldn't have been considered a butler....

i would go with housekeeper.

Fantasy. Since when did a guy figure out how to clean house?

I would call him a housekeeper or housecleaner. As in "My housekeeper's coming in on Monday." Then you don't have to use a word with the connotation of either gender.
