I have a friend who lives in Lithonia in a nice suburb and she swears it is not ghetto. She, however, is a little ghetto so I don't think she can really tell the difference. I am thinking about moving there and would like to know your thoughts. I would like to live somewhere that doesn't ever require me to go to the city...my job would be in tucker.

"Lithonia" means "City of Stone." Lithonia is also home to New Birth Missionary Baptist Church (a mega church with 30,000 members.)

The city is in the heart of the Georgia granite district, hence the name of the town.

I've only been there once, but, in my opinion, Lithonia isn't very ghetto. The racial makeup is 16.64% White, 79.61% African American, 0.09% Asian, and Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.88% of the population. The median income for a family was $110,792 (that's pretty high.)

It's pretty much a suburb.

I worked near there for a while, and know the cracks and crevices of Lithonia, and did not like it. I would say it is not exactly ghetto but i would not live there either. It's spaced out in trems of housing, but it's too far from the city even though i know you dont care to go into the city. The area is a bit tooo slow. You may hit some serious traffic in and out of lithonia to work since the only interstate is 1-20. Side roads may be jammed too. Crime is also kinda on the average to high side.
Give Lithonia a few years and it WILL be ghetto.

Choice areas: close to work; city of decatur, some parts of tucker, dunwoody, sandy springs,

Lithonia is not ghetto at all. It's a middle-class/upper-middle class area with mostly African Americans. It's very nice.

It's all about perception. The perception is that Stone Mountain and Lithonia are ghetto. Is it warranted? You'll have to decide for yourself.
