I have been to Raccoon Mtn pumped storage for TVA in Tennessee where they can generate approx 1.8 MW and use it almost every day to shave peak load. Where are other units located and what ratings do they have?

Duh, I meant 1800 MW for Raccoon Mtn. They recently upgraded from the 1530 and they act like they don't want to give the actual ratings anymore. My number above is based on what the tour guide indicated when we were there.

there are quite a few - I was surprised to see the concept is quite old.

eg. this one in Wales

Dinorwig Power Station, Llanberis

it has six 300MW turbines and can go from zero to 1320 MW in 12 seconds

In Scotland, Cruachan Power Station (or the Ben Cruachan Pumped Storage Scheme) is a 400 MW unit which smooths out the load on the nuclear generating stations at Hunterston and Torness. It was opened in 1965.
