Hi, My name is Megan. I have been having wrist problems for sometime now. I am 17 and ever since 8th grade I my wrist have always hurt on and off and now it doesn't stop. My doctors told me at first it was tendentious my freshmen year. Last year (my junior year) I went back because the problem has only got worse and they told me it was Carpal tunnel and yet they did nothing for me. Now I am a senior and have been dealing with this for a while and I went back to the doctors and they are now sending me to a surgeon about this but I don't go back until March 19 and I was just wondering what you all think and what I could do to help with the pain until them. Thank you for you time.

It is ridiculous that they haven't sent you to a chiropractor yet. Many times treatment by a chiropractor can keep you from having to have a dangerous and expensive surgery. There has been plenty of research done with chiropractic on patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome and chiropractic care has been indicate as the most effective noninvasive technique for correcting this, often more effective than medical treatment. There are also serious risks involved with surgery for this problem and the surgery is often times not necessary. I strongly suggest trying chiropractic and use surgery as a last resort. I also wouldn’t use medications for the pain as they can have serious side effect to your health.
American Association for Cancer Research
NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as advil, motrin, aleve, ibuprofen, naproxen, ect. taken for 6 months doubles a persons chances of heart attack, stroke, or other heart related problem. “NSAID users were dying at twice the rate of nonusers.” Ibuprofen users were 3 times likely to die of cardiovascular problems.

Journal of the National Institute of Cancer published a research study done on 114,460 women that showed women who take ibuprofen for 5 yrs are 50% more likely to develop breast cancer and women who take aprin for 5 yrs are 80% more likely to develop breast cancer.

The Lancet, the world’s leading general medical journal, and the British Medical Journal published this randomized study of chiropractic and hospital out patient treatment. The study used 741 patients. They noted the study “showed a strong and clear advantage for patients with chiropractic.”

Hope this helps and here is a site with research that you can read.

I don't have precise medical information but I've had mild carpal tunnel syndrome on and off for the past ten years.

Mine is usually related to computer use and especially gripping the mouse. If this sounds familiar- then part of the issue is to try to cut down your time in front of the computer or find a way to place everything to diminish the pain- just make sure you don't set up keyboard, mouse etc in a way that will aggravate other problems (neck, shoulders, etc)

In terms of other homeopathic remedies you can try- rescue remedy is a cream that helps somewhat- you can find this at any health store or organic food store. I also heard that eating canned food, because of the preservatives- is linked to arthritis- which I suppose is distantly related to carpal tunnel syndrome.

I am sure you've tried plenty of pain killers in the meantime- of course you cannot take them constantly- you'll burn a hole in your stomach and develop elevated tolerance to ibuprofen.

If you like to swim- believe it or not- this worked best for me to diminish my carpal tunnel syndrome.

Hope some of these things help!

First.. you have to make sure it's carpal tunnel.. but secondly your use of the computer is seriously putting strain on an already bad problem. Do you have a wrist brace? They are sold at any drugstore and you should even sleep in them. Do you notice that you curl your hand in when sleeping? The brace will stop that.
I'm not a doctor, but I suggest staying away from the computer, put on the wrist brace and take advil.
Hope it helps.. good luck.
(a long time sufferer.. who suffers more when at computer)

Hi Megan
I am a massage therapist and I see these problems a lot. You sound as though you have some nerve impingement somewhere - either tight muscles are pinching the nerves, or they are caught up in some scar tissue of some sort. Stretching out your neck, in particular bringing your ear to your shoulder (the one opposite the sore arm), and stretching out the arm muscles can help. Massage or physiotherapy help too.
I have been able to reverse this problem in others, so don't worry too much! Just work at it and it will ease off. Heat to the neck and inside arm may help ease the pain. Massaging the inside of your wrist and stretching your neck and arm will help within a week or two if you keep at it.
Good luck!

I had this problem for a long time. Get a wrist brace and make sure you wear it to bed at night (it's possible you're bending the wrist when you sleep). I also switched from using a regular mouse to one of those round ball mouse devices. Hope this helps...

Well, i am not sure this will help but i heard that it will go away on its own in most cases. Try not using ur puter for a while, u'd be surprised at how many muscles are strained because of the pc.

good luck.
