In an open relationship, you have a primary partner (your "boyfriend" or "girlfriend'...or husband/wife in an open marriage) but you are both free to form sexual relationships with other people...
A swinging relationship is similar, but you would have other sex partners as a couple (not necessarily bisexual activity) versus "open" where each partner does their own thing with their playmates and their spouse/partner typically never meets their playmates...

an open relationship is where you have your steady boyfriend,but date other people at the sametime.Where as with a steady relationship your just with the one guy.
