It depends on your total caloric intake. Speaking in calories first, your total caloric intake for a day should be broken down into 40% protein, 30% carbs, and 30% fat.

1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories
1 gram of protein = 4 calories
1 gram of fat = 9 calories

So if you take in about 2000 calories per day, 30% of them should come from fat, which is 600 calories or about 60 grams. There are different kinds of fat so keep them healthy; fats that are liquid at room temperature are better than those that are solid. These are just estimates, so it's better to go lower than higher.

There is no recommended allowance of fat in human nurtition. There are several trace fatty acids that are not synthesized in the human body but they are associated with items such as wheat. Nutritionists recommend that we limit our fat intake to 25% of calories.
