I believe they're "sins" because they represent behaviors which are out of the control of the religious leaders. It has nothing really to do with gods; it has to do with stuff other people might not approve of. As far as I can see, most of the so-called "deadly sins" are just thing people do to have a good time: eat a lot, drink a lot, get into fights, and then have recreational sex. Meaning, of course, they really rarely hurt anyone except the person committing the "sins." So, it really isn't any church's business.

Glad to help answer your Q's.
7 deadly sins?
i'm a pagan but i find all religons interesting. i was just wondering why are the 7 deadly sins so bad. is Greed not the will to have more than you already have ? why is that wrong?
Its not that we dont need things to live and function in the modern world, God is aware that this is true. But its when get too involved in these items that we stop loving one another and forget who made us with wonder and love to begin with.
and lust what is so wrong with lust? with out it there would be no humans on this earth and come on is it not a need to have sex.
Jesus knows that we need to be sexually active, but that is where the lesson comes into play. If we go out and f*** anything that moves we loose the intimacy that comes from finding that one special partner and gain unwanted pregnancies and VD's.
and gluttony is it not just eating more than you need to live and don't christains do that every christmas
Yes, we are all guilty of hurting our bodies in some fashion. We are going to make mistakes but that is the only way we can learn in life.
and on your day off why is being slothful so bad
Its not. We need to take a break now and then, God said that he rested on after the 6 th day of creation.
and with out wrath would people not walk all over us
Wrath is sometimes the lesser of two evils in a situation where people are continuously walking over us to the point of serious hurt, but walking away and removing yourself is also a means to an end too. Or a third party to help work out the problem.
and envy why not want what someone else has wouldn't that help you get the same
We all have desires, just as long as you dont make desireitself your God you will be okay.
and pride why not admire yourself and would not pride help you with gluttony when you eat to much to being yourself back to your normal self doesn't pride make us healthy and want to exercise.
True, again its having too much that makes you blind to seeing the fall coming. Keep everything in your life good and bad in balance and even weighing more towards the good side and your life will be better.
so what is so wrong with these ''sins'' i would like to know so i don't ''bash'' you. i would like to understand you better.
They are only major sins when pushed to extremes in most cases. We must make a few mistakes to learn, but Jesus still welcomes you with open arms and does not judge. Its people who think they are righteous who go around judging, but they are blind to their own sins.

This is a difficult question to answer but it IS a good question. I'm a Christian and I will try to just put it in a nutshell because honestly would could talk about this for at least an hour! :)
Basically anything in excess is bad. Such as gluttony, pride and yes even wrath. Of course we should have pride in our work, health etc, but it shouldn't go to excess and it should never get in the way of our being able to admit when we are wrong.
Really it isn't even this black and white. Jesus was wrathful when he drove the money lenders out of the temple. We just shouldn't take it to excess. Lust however leads to sexual sins, and a Christian should not commit a sexual sin. Being envious or covetous of something another has is just not good. It creates disharmony within and does nothing but harm the person who envies. And we should never envy another Christian (or really anyone for that matter) but Christ loves that person and if they are a Christian they have Christ within them, and it would be very wrong to envy Christ.
I hope I've made some sense here and answered this to at least a little of your satisfaction. I believe this question would best be answered by a minister.

I'm not going to say "because the Bible says so" because the Bible doesn't say so. That list of sins was made up by the Catholic church. If you want the real list of 7 sins that the Bible contains, here it is.
Proverbs 6:16 There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19 a false witness who pours out lies
and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Actually the Bible doesn't say so. These 7 deadly sins that you talk about are in Catholic teaching not in Christian teaching. The Bible list the ten commandments as the foundational standard of morality. The list of the 7 sin you mention are in the Bible but not called the 7 deadly sins, that is a Catholic addition. The bible just says they are 7 things that God hates.

the negative side of these sins are all based in ignorance and are detrimantal to oneself and others they originate in the Baghavad Ghita . A far eastern Belief system . take gluttony for instance you over eat you get obese you die at an early age from diabetes
or stroke and heart attack from too much fat in the diet . Each one has scope beyond shallow sarcasm.

Nothing is unclean in and of itself. The seven "deadly sins" are spoken as such only if you become obsessed with them. All things in balance are fine. Making them your "god" is what makes them "sinful".
