I'm leaving on the 22nd flying to Hong Kong. I'm flying from Gulfport, MS to Houston, TX at 6:00am...at 10:45 I leave Houston to Tokyo which is a 15 hour flight. Then another 4 hour flight to Hong Kong. I would LOVE to sleep most of the flight from Houston to Tokyo. I'm planning on taking a 1mg xanax..They usually knock me out when I'm at home but not so much on a plane. I'm just too edgy on flights. Would it be wise to stay up the night before?

I always stay up the night before I take a long flight. It makes it a lot easier to sleep on the plane. I also recommend stretching between naps. Go to the area near the toilets. The flight attendants have jump seats there that are usually folded up. It's a good area for stretching. You don't want to be stiff when you get off the flight. I didn't stretch the first time I flew on a 15 hour flight and my legs were stiff for days.

It's also a good idea to try to spend the week before you leave adjusting to the time you will be on when you go overseas. You are less likely to have jet lag that way.

I think you shoud get enough sleep as much as possible... If you missed one sleep you are may not may not able to replace it by sleep longer hours or taking a nap in the day time. So why tourture yourself... Just sleep whenever you feel like it and get plenty of rest.
