Legally - You are met by an officer with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, you provide your entry documents, and the officers say, "enter and have a great day"
Illegally- You enter the United States covered in water and mud, or sand and rocks by going under the fence, or covered with clothing in the back of a trunk. Or smelling like sewage going through a crap tunnel, or bleeding going over a fence with razor ribbon, oh yeah, not clearing with an Officer who works for U.S. Customs.

Those that cross legally, help support the schools, roads, and all of the other necessary programs that keep the country running. Those that cross illegally, live off of those that pay taxes that support the schools, roads, and all of the other necessary programs that keep the country running. If you cross illegally then you are a freeloader. You are taking advantage of what the legally immigrants and citizens work so hard to maintain. The more immigrants we have the better we are, since they are helping us with our tax burden. The more illegals we have the more we fall behind.

If you come into the US with a passport from another country and got a visa to stay here, such as a tourist visa, you've entered legally. You become an illegal alien is you don't leave before the visa expires.
If you sneak across the border you've entered illegally, without inspection. in addition to being here illegally.

Crossing the green border is illegal, as it precludes registration with the authorities. That includes people sneaking across the desert at night, flying in in small aircraft, landing via yachts and not declaring their presence, and stowing away on trucks and under cars or trains.
Crossing legally means crossing with paperwork, at an official point of entry, or using official procedures.

When you cross the border legally you have permission to enter the country through a VISA that some have to pay lots of money to the government to get. When you enter the country illegally, you do not have permission so you pay someone...if you are talking about Mexico, they are called "Coyotes" to cross you and you pay them lots of money. So, basically it is about the same!

Getting inside any country without proper paper documentation to stay. Why not do the proper things before you go anywhere else? And why not stay in your own country and love your country? Why you should go anywhere else and become a slave?

Those quotation marks you used shows that you already know the difference, and that you're just trying to bait people into supporting your position that border jumping is OK.
