What should I know. Is the pay worth it?

Yes, I like my job - it is stressful and can be overwhelming at times. Your job is to help the offender become a productive member of society while protecting the community. That can be difficult at times. I don't know what the pay is like in Dallas - but even with the pay increases (3 in the last year) sometimes I still dont think we get paid enough for all the hoops we have to jump throug. We have to answer to your supervisor, the community and most importantly the Judges. Its a tough job but it can be rewarding at times. Good Luck!

I'm a probaton/parole officer in Arkansas. The pay isn't that good, and the working conditions are marginal, but, there are moments. I saw a guy yesterday in a local Wal-Mart, who was a former probationer of mine. I got him into a drug court after he violated his probation. He thanked me for saving his life. I've been a rehabilitation counselor, a youth counselor, and a psycholical examiner, and this is the most rewarding job I've ever had. your mileage may vary.
