i study religion. and i dont really pick a side. but, buddism is interesting. i actually have a buddah statue next to me. i like to keep an open mind...a VERY open mind. but buddhism is great from your mind and soul. it teaches you to be a selfless, caring spirit.
check this site out. they even have a buddist magazine.

good luck! and, i hope you study a lot of religions before you actually decide to call yourself a buddist. for me, i don't like to call myself anything. i do believe there is a god because someone had to have created all this but it is hard to believe anything else really. you just don't know and i personally don't think god is a bad person that will send you to hell if you've killed someone blah blah. anyways, i would really like to hear your point of view. e-mail me or IM me anytime via my profile.
oh, and don't pay any attention to those people above me that say "go to jesus". nothing is more annoying than people who try to push their religion upon you instead of incouraging you to follow your heart even when it comes to religion.

There are several web sites but it is hard to really grasp the concept of Buddhism by a website so I would advise some really good books over Buddhism. I enjoy the books written by Thich Nhat Hanh; especially "Heart of the Buddha's Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, & Liberation : The Four Noble Truths, the Noble Eightfold Path, & Other Basic Buddhist Teachings". I have liked it the most so far. But there are several others that I intend on reading.
I hope this helps you.

The below website has some decent information to get you started.
Generally speaking, the "goal" of Buddhism is to acheive Enlightenment and to see through the maya, or world of illusion. Of course, this is an oversimplification, but it is sufficient. Buddhism is a very interesting way of life (it is not a religion, per se). Every Buddhist I've known is a wonderful human being, and are very spiritual.
My heart goes with you on your journey.

This is a good site for beginning exploration.
I also can recommend the book "Buddhism without Belief" by Stephen Batchelor.
Also any books on meditation by Thich Nhat Hahn.
In truth, one doesn't really convert to Buddhism. One becomes a student or a practitioner. Buddhism does not have a "theology" that you must accept or reject. There are many practicing Buddhists who are also Jewish or Christian.

Precious one, why would you convert to a faith you know little about? I'm not in any way trying to bash you or question the choice you made. Take time to learn the tenets of any faith before you "convert" to it. I wish you much success on your journey.
