In this day and age, we don't have mediums. Everything is "extreme". There are extreme sports events, NASCAR races, political campaigns and so forth. So we don't have mediums any more. We have extremes.
Yes, I agree that extremes spend too much time on the spiritual world. There is no proof that the spiritual world they seek actually exists.

They are off in their own self generated dream world. It is not even the spiritual world, it is just their imagination working overtime.
I have found people who claim to be such are fable tellers and they refuse to be rational or to look at true facts and empirical evidence. They make nonsensical claims and get angry and refuse to speak to you any more when you point out their lack of common sense.
It is sad really that more don't use their reasoning skills.
