That is one of the things cats do best. Do not worry, unless they stop eating. Let him sleep.

You don't mention the age of your cat. Older cats may spend more time sleeping than younger ones.
Are you leaving food out all the time for him? When he mosies around is he going to snack on dry food? If that is so his digestive system is constantly in a working mode and will reduce his activity level as all his energies are put into that process. I learned that myself one time when I fasted for nine days. I had an incredible amount of energy from not having to digest food.
If your cat is sleeping in his usual places he is probably alright medically. If he is hiding out or sleeping reclusively it is more an issue of concern.

Yeah its fine. Most cats can sleep UP TO 17-18 hours a day. If she is old, then its normal, if shes young, then hopefully its only like 14 hours. Young cats are GREAT and they need the exercise for later life!

I read somewhere that cats sleep on the average of about 16+ hours a day. I believe this is a carry over from the wild ancestors when they slept a lot to conserve energy.

"The average cat sleeps for 13-18 hours a day."
"felines spend an average of 13 to 16 hours each day curled up in slumber. Only the opossum and the bat sleep more – napping away almost 20 hours a day. " http://www.petplace.com/cats/sleep-behavior-of-cats/page1.aspx
Yep - that's what cats do - sleep, eat, sleep, play, poop, sleep, torment the person, sleep some more, eat again, sleep.

My cat does the same; Wakes up, eats, Poops, Sleep, Sleep, Eat, Sleep, And maybe if he hasn't slept the whole day away he plays.
But It maybe be because they have nothing else to do so they sleep all day. Is your cat indoor? Indoor cats tend to be more sleepy than outdoor.

Estk,
I have owned seven cats in my life time and they all have slept about 18 to 20 hours each day. It's totally normal. They do take a lot of cat naps which are kind of half sleeping and half awake.

our cat sleeps alot as well. Most cats are up all night and take short "cat naps" during the day. It would be like if we stayed up all night, every night. We would be tired as well!

your cat is just going to sleep whenever he wants and you don't need to worry about it. cats are nocturnal, which means that they are active mainly at night. your cat might just be lazy or love taking a lot of cat naps.
