You probably mean Manx cats - check the links below to see some pictures... Lynx (AKA bobcats) are wild cats found throughout the US and they are not kept as pets.
You can find plenty of Manxes that are already in humane societies looking for homes: http://www.petfinder.org
They are quite common and no more expensive than other breeds of cats. Obviously, you're going to have to spend more money if you go to a professional breeder - no matter what breed the cat is.
Be aware though that they often have a lot of health problems. The lack of a tail can indicate underdeveloped spinal-cord nerves, which can lead to paralysis and other health problems.
Two of my manxes are incontinent of their bowels. They have to live outside and I have to clean their bottoms on a regular basis. My other manx has no problems at all though (other than her being rather feisty).

The only way to really know what a purebred cat costs is to decide what breeder you want to get a kitten from, and then ask. Purebred cats generally run from $500 and up (is my guess). I breed Maine Coon cats, live in CT and charge $800, and I am not the most expensive around.
Breeders don't make any money at breeding. Indeed the joke is we celebrate if we ever break even! We do it for the breed, because we love the cats.
If you want to research Manx cats, the type you are talking about, I've given you some links. If you are interested in contacting breeders, I've left you a link to find breeders.

You might be referring to a newer breed called a "Pixie Bob". They actually have bobcat in their ancestry but are reputed to be sweet and gentle. They are large cats, tiger-striped and usually polydactal (having extra toes) I think. You could probably locate a breeder online, but like all purebred cats, I'm sure they're pricey.
Other breeds you might be thinking of are Manx and Japanese Bobtail. But if you really want a "nub-tailed" cat, check your local shelter: sometimes randon-bred kittens are born with bobbed tails. My cat Sophie is an all-white deaf bobtail who was born in a barn.

Lynx have very large tials. These are wildcats and you are not allowed to keep as pet. Bobcats - same deal. Bobcats have a small stub for tail.
You probably are refering to Manx cats.

wrong....lynx are wild cats.
MANX are cats with stubby to no tails. i'm sure they have quite a hefty price tag as they are a pure breed of cat and that always has a price.
