we are fostering a mother and her four kittens. The kittens are now two weeks old and since their birth the mom has done the same thing yours has. It is normal for a mother to go out and stretch her legs. Our mother cat will sometimes just come out and lay down to rest. Nursing four kittens is a hard job! Also, the mother needs time to eat. All cats are different. Some will spend hours away from their kittens, others only a few seconds. What your cat is doing is perfectly normal. Also, our cat comes out about every half an hour. Your cat apparently has alot more dedication to her kittens! Congradulations on the little buggers!

That sounds normal. When a cat has kittens, you find she wont go very far, espeicially if they have just been born. She may wonder round the house for a little break but the majority of the time she will be with the kittens as they feed every 2 hours during the very early days after birth. When kittens have just been born, they are blind and unable to control their body temperature. They rely on their mother for everything. If mum stays away too long, kittens can lose heat and may die. Mum will use her own body heat to keep the kittens warm. That is why she wont leave them too long on their own. Once the kittens start getting mobile, you will find she will still keep an eye on them to make sure they are not wandering off too far and will leave them alone for a bit longer.

My cat has just had kittens last week - she spends most of the day and night with them and then will take the odd half hour break to eat and go outside generally when the kittens are asleep. She is also looking for other locations as I think she wants to move them - all very natural.

Perfectly normal, Mum needs a break & to stretch her legs. She will take gradually longer breaks from the kittens as they get older. They should be feeding from mum till around 6wks although they will be taking other food too by then. Kittens shouldn't leave their mum until 8 wks old. Some people rehome at 6wks but this is wrong as they need to learn from their mum as well as feed from her. Enjoy, it can be an amazing time even if it is hard work too!!!!!!

The kittens favor to stay with their mom till they're twelve weeks previous. Up till 8 weeks, they get major antibodies from their mom's milk, and they save getting to comprehend social behaviour (and such issues as utilising muddle container) till twelve weeks. you could, although, already now set up classified ads for your kittens, affirming what shades and genders they're, and what date they are going to be ready to bypass (i.e. even as they're twelve weeks). That way absolutely everyone who's searching to purchase a kitten can include techniques from and look at them and get to understand the only they opt for. you'll favor to get the kittens vaccinated even as they're 7-8 weeks or maybe as they're 11-12 weeks. the costs can variety a lot from vet to vet, so I advise you call round to three and ask what they fee for 5 kittens with common vaccinations and identity marking (this is suggested). some vets grant particular-priced applications once you've all that performed with them. With purebred cats, you want to have the kittens inspected with techniques from a vet interior 7 days previously they get a sparkling proprietor, to make confident there are not any actual problems with the kittens (or that the hot vendors are conscious of those issues), yet i'm not entirely confident how mandatory that must be for you. Over right here, we've a vet who costs round $60-seventy 5 (do not somewhat save in ideas) in line with kitten for 2 vaccinations and chip identity. i ought to signify placing a cost for the kittens at about what it costs to vaccinate and identity-mark them, and write it out interior the ad (both cost and they are going to be vaccinated/identity-marked). possibly some must be became away with techniques from not getting a loose cat, yet ought to you truly opt for the kittens to bypass to someone who did not imagine a puppy replaced into properly worth some thing? good luck! =D

Deffinetly. but make sure that once that cats are old enough, they start eating on their own. As soon as the cats grom teeth that when they are able to be alone w/ eating. If you dont do this the cats will stay attatched to the mom until the mom gets tired of it.

She's doing what comes naturally, so leave her to it. She'll spend as much time as she needs to, taking her own breaks when she wants to.
Make sure you keep the little blighters until they're 10 weeks old, don't let them go beforehand.
And enjoy them - new kittens are the cutest thig ever!

Yes, that is normal. Momma cat has to have some time for herself just like human mommas do. She will always come back for feeding time.
