I do not see it so how and why are people stating the age, from where and what text or is it just thier imagingation?

All it says is that Joseph was older than Mary.

Their precise ages are never mentioned in the Bible.
However, Mary was a young woman (a teenager in our culture would have been considered a young woman in theirs) of a marriageable age. She could have been in her mid-teens.
While it would be normal to marry the girl off to a man with a well-established business (Joseph was a carpenter, good job, stable home, etc.), and thus to expect him to be older, 70 is NOT a good age to consider Joseph to be. That would have been way out of his life's expectancy!

there is no where in the Bible that says mary was 13 and Joseph was 70 both were about 30 yrs old some one didnt do their homework Gorbalizer

I'm a skeptic but I don't think it directly says such but one can surmise the average age for a virgin marriage was in the teens and Jesus had brothers so they were either adopted from Josephs previous wife or they were half brother to Joseph and Mary from later in their marriage . I don't grant a lot of reliability to biblical text over approx. two thousand years ? Do think by today's standards Joe was a bit of a pedophile?

in any casw Mary might have been 13, but Jospeh was not likely 70 but was probably older than Mary
it is assumed Mary was a young teen because that was the usual time to get married for women
it is assumed Joesph was older, because when Jesus died on the cross, it appeared Joseph was already gone and assumed by most to have died and assumed to be older... note the word assumed
truth is.. it doesn't say... Joseph was probably older than Mary as most husbands probably were.given

nah i think that just some muslim propaganda to try and take the piss out of christians -- Ummm Mohammed was 52 and his wife was 9 or 11 when the marrigae was consumated but nothing like this in new testament of the bible about Joseph & Mary

it can be surmised that he was considerably older just because that was generally the case but i dont think this is true...its not in the movie either...just saw it last night
